Any kitchen store will sell them. And I know Walmart sells them too, so try there or Canadian Tire.

If you're using store bought apples don't forget to sand the skins with sandpaper before dipping. Now I'm craving caramel apples

no help with finding a thermometer (did you try the grocery store up in tignish, or a general store? i'm not familiar with whats up there!), but a tip i saw about making candy apples:
to make them easier to eat, slice the apples first, sort of making apple lollipops! easier to eat (easier on the teeth!)

Home hardware sells them. Try the store in Alberton.
