Anyone use these? I've been hearing rave reviews about these, but only on a "My cousins best friends boyfriends mothers uses them" basis.

I hear that it costs dollars a day to heat/cool your house with them and 3-4 grand to buy/install them.

It's an air source heat pump and they have been discussed in many threads.

Heating costs depend on the size of your house, how well insulated it is and how high you set your thermostat.

Thanks greenspree, I wasn't sure what type of heating this unit was (infrared, heat pump (air/water)) etc. I'll check out the threads!!

A note on infrared (IR) heaters:

They produce the same number of BTU's per KWhr as any electric heater, 3412BTU/KWHr.

Direct infrared heaters (think restaurant heat lamps or heaters in a rink) work by heating what they are pointed at instead of the air in a building and while not more efficient can conserve energy. In the IR box heaters the IR lamp is pointed at a set of metal fins or screen and air is blown across them eliminating any advantage the IR heating may have.

When looking at supplemental portable heaters, I would recommend buying cheaper electric resistant heaters with a built in fan over the IR heaters in a box as they are much much cheaper to buy and no less efficient at producing heat.
