Did anyone get one in the mail recommending a switch to propane heat?

How much would it cost to convert?
How inflated are their numbers and claims?
Is this just a desperate attempt to get people to switch before propane goes up in price by 9% with the HST?

I got one too.

Good questions!

(Especially about the HST)

Oil heat at 85% efficiency costs about $37/MMBtu
Propane heat at 90% efficiency costs about $30/MMBtu

To switch a boiler from oil to propane can vary in costs, but usually about $4000-6000.

Would those numbers be typical?
Would Superior be using a "worst case scenario" "best case scenario" comparison when they compare a Fuel Oil furnace at 80% efficiency to a Propane burner at 95% efficiency?

We have a propane fireplace in our living room and its amazing.

We just turned the heat on in our house! Can't remember when we did last year

Get a nice condensing gas boiler and you efficiency ratings can get into the %96-%97 area, I am torn between a mini-split heat pump and a propane boiler for supplementary heat(currently have oil with a 15gal day tank), I heat primarily with wood, around 6 cord a year (for both heat and DHW) And then when I really think about I would love to get a gassifying wood boiler, which would probably drop my wood usage by a third or more, the decisions.......I wish money was no object :D

80% for you existing boiler is certainly not worst case. If it was a low efficiency burner it'd be about 83% new so losing 3% is quite believable.

95% for new would be a top of the line model, the 90% I used for propane in my first post was for a non-condensing boiler. The price would obviously be higher for a condensing boiler at 95%.

80% oil would be costing you $39.30/MMBtu
95% propane would cost you $28.50/MMBtu

So switching would save you about 27.5% per year.
