As of Oct 1, 2012 Dr. Grant Matheson's license to practice has been suspended pending investigation (according to the College of Physicians and Surgeons (http://cpspei.ca/news/).

For his patients this means that pharmacies will not honour his prescriptions until the matter is resolved.

The CBC will run a short blurb tonight but they only are going on the small amount of info on the College site. Look to the Guardian for more coverage.
The only reason the media knows about this (and hence the public and hence the doctor's patients) is because The Island Health and Patient Advocacy Association got wind of it. Shouldn't the College have more responsibility to disseminate this kind of important information when it involves patient prescriptions?

At least the College finally has a website - it's a start. I guess since the MD is not practicing, as opposed to practicing with conditions, they don't see a need to tell us any more.
Here we go again with Dr. Matheson - I guess I will find out the hard way at presecription renewal time whether or not my pharmacist will honour them. For many years now, we patients of Dr. Matheson we've been without a doctor much more than we've had him. I hope they solve this longstanding problem soon!

According to Health PEI, as of last night, they are looking for a doctor to replace him. They would have that responsibility if Dr. Matheson was on salary and not fee-for-service. Because he is listed as having 1500 patients, which is the number salaried doctors must take on, then I am assuming that Dr. Matheson is salaried and therefore it is Health PEI's responsibility to find a replacement as soon as possible.

For now they are sending the most ill patients to other doctors--though how they ascertain this I have no idea. Apparently the LPN that works at Parkdale will continue to see patients although she is extremely limited in what she can do. The rest have to go to walk-ins and the ER.

No pharmacy will honour Dr. Matheson's prescription. If you have a script with him it will have to be rewritten by another physician.

Patients of Dr. Matheson should have been made aware of the situation much sooner so that they could have taken steps to protect themselves to some degree.
