I was in town today and got got up in traffic from the marathon, and it sucked. I was on the bypass and got hung up by the new sobeys. The people managing traffic were not allowing anything on the bypass to move. We waited 30 min without moving, finally cut the wheels hard and went off roading to turn around.
To get to Cornwall I had to cut back to the airport, down to Allen st. then up north river road. I had to wait for a bit on University for about 15 min to cross there.
Great for the runners, nice to see people doing it. As far as organizing the thing, there needs to proper notice for drivers, alternate routes (I seen some fellow truckers in the mix and they did not look happy to be stuck forever sitting still when they have places to go and deliveries to make) or have the thing on the old rail tracks to minimize the traffic congestion.

There were notices in all local media and street signs.

Completely moronic to cut off every single access to Charlottetown for a race.

Move it out of town. Well out of town! Didn't they have this event in the National Parks in prior years? Little traffic there this time of year. Do laps between Cavendish and Rustico on that shoreline drive.

Agreed, there has been plenty of notice.

I think it is fine that it ends in town but could they not use a more direct route to that point instead of criss crossing all over the west side of the city to get there. It is near impossible to get into the city from route 2 west during this every year.

Just don't go near University Avenue. All other routes were clear sailing today. I needed to get from Cornwall to Ellis Brothers Area and only had to alter my route a little. I went in North River Road which was smooth sailing and circled up Richmond Street to get back over to St.Peters Road. You make it sound like the detour needed was an hour or more to avoid the closed routes. Charlottetown is not that big or that busy, especially on a Sunday from 9 to 2!!!
As for more warning, those electronic signs have been all up on all sides of town for a week at least.

The people managing the traffic where the police and when we crossed the bypass things where running smooth and that was middle of ,it . The run does go on the trail and Cavendish has for the last ten years ... and sudden it's a problem .
unnecessary disruption ..someone tell them they better move the gold cup parade .... the Santa Claus parade and hey don't they block the Ave Nov 11

Oddly enough, i'm totally annoyed by the bridge race they do, but this doesn't bother me at all. I was in town too and didn't find it too bad. Inspriing,to be hoenst. I wanted to honk my horn every time i passed a runner.

By planning my route in and out of town based on posted notices and warnings it was pretty darn easy to get around. Its a few hours on a Sunday one day out of the year. Live with it people. Perhaps we should just not allow any events to occur down town.

The race brings a heck of a lot of people into town and is an incredible showcase event for the city. The comment that echoed yesterday from spectators and runners was how well organized the entire day was. Perhaps we should move all parades to the north shore.

Why don't we just start having ball hockey tournaments in the middle of University Ave. and Queen St. and North River Rd. Same logic.

This was the 9th year for this course...nothing new. A single Sunday once a year causing minimal inconvenience. People come from all over Eastern Canada and the eastern seaboard to run this race. Very highly regarded event.

Since it would get some fat arses off the couch and away from the potato chips and foie gras, I think that would be a great idea. The promotion of a healthy lifestyle, involving thousands of people and the boosting of the local economy at this time of year trumps an minor inconvenience to only a few on a Sunday morning every time, whether ball hockey or road running.

The marathon didn't affect Queen Street, or North River Road. I was on both of those yesterday and had no problems at all. And since we are grasping at straws here, you said why not have it in the middle of University Ave and other streets, go ahead. When all the snow fence from Bonshaw is finished being used, string it along and block off the turn lanes and have the world's largest center line ball hockey tournament. All the lazy arse islanders wont have to even get out of their cars to watch. Just drive along and cheer on your favorite team!!! Win win for everyone!!!
