How would you rate yourself on your own driving?
I am betting no one admit to being a bad driver.
I myself consider myself average.I have never been in an accident or been issued a ticket.

There's no such thing as an accident. Ticket? How bad a driver do you have to be to get a ticket for no seatbelt?

Is Average average for pei or average for canada, because the average for pei is much lower than other provinces average.

Dagnabbit! Excellent, Fair, and Bad, are all ratings higher than Better than average and Average in this province.

What I find a bit scary with the way this poll is going is that, at the moment, 71% of respondents (17 of 24) rate themselves as better than average or better.
Meaning that they most likely feel there is nothing more that they need to do to improve their driving skills ... and as soon as they feel they know it all and have nothing more to learn, they are likely going to develop a lackadaisical attitude to driving ... which in turn has the potential to make them a dangerous driver.

I rated myself as average. I obey the rules (except I do admit to going about 10k over the speed limit usually, so that is bad). I notice bad habits in other drivers, but also notice myself pulling some bonehead moves the odd time. I do try to take others into consideration when driving though, which seems to be a trait that a lot of people lack once they get behind the wheel. The whole "you are not getting in front of me!!" mentality of merge lanes or intersections etc around here drives me bonkers!

And what did you rate yourself? Average. To be honest, a few years ago I probably would have rated myself as excellent or above average (I've taken driver ed and driver skills training, have a commercial licence and have driven hundreds of thousands of uneventful miles with only one minor fender bender and only two tickets over 46 years of driving) , but a few years back I had a great discussion with a relative I hadn't seen in several years. This guy had spent 20 years in the military driving everything from oversized rocket launch vehicles to limousines carrying visiting heads of state and later in his career becoming a driving instructor. Back in the civilian world, he taught driving skills and safety courses for commercial drivers. When he told me that he only considered himself an average to slightly better than average driver ... and why he kept himself in that frame of mind (reasons stated in my earlier post) ... I changed my attitude about how I should rate my own ability behind the wheel. I will, however, rate my self as above average as a "defensive driver"

I find this scary also. But what i find more scary is people who are bad driver and do not think they are.I have a few friends who are like this and i cringe just thinking of driving with them,i have done it and it still shocks me that they are not in more accidents . I have told one friend that they were a bad driver and they were p*ssed about it and told me that they were an excellent driver.I told them why i did not think they were a good driver and they told me this-that's the way i drive.

I rated myself as bad. I am easily distracted, speed when I am by myself, roll through stop signs and red lights when turning right, take many corners too sharply and drive over the curb, never know where the front of my car ends.
But I can parallel park and I yield for pedestrians!

But I can parallel park and I yield for pedestrians! This is very refreshing to see someone being so honest about themselves. Now out of curiosity and you don't have to answer, but what would it take to change some of your bad driving habits that you listed?

I tend to speed, roll stop signs and have complete disregard for pedestrians and other vehicles on the road. I rated myself average.

I would put these type of habits in the "bad driver" column. Depending on the defination of average would depend on where I fall. By what most people are defining average of I would say I'm better than average for PEI. Myself I tend to have a heavy foot as well. Most of the time I follow the rules (except for speed limit on the highway), but there have been a few times that I've been a bone head/distracted and thought to my self "oh F#%k, that could of been bad". I know I spend a great deal of my time shaking my head and cursing to myself over the stupid moves people make. I've been in one accident where someone running a red light t-boned me (I was third car to move on green) and one speeding ticket.

I rated myself as excellant...I only speed when I am in a hurry, always stop at stop signs...IF there is something coming and if the pedestrians are close enough to possibly cause damage to my truck I will stop or go around them!

Oh so close, you are not supposed to go around them (or through them ) and "I am in a hurry" isn't a legit reason to speed. But if your being honest you might just be the best so far haha.

How can you rate yourself as excellent if you admit to speeding? Or put pedestrians well being in danger?

This is infuriating.
I rated myself as "shouldn't be driving" because I know the damned poll would have people who are bad drivers voting "good"
There are two types of drivers. Bad and good. You can be the worst driver or almost good. Great. It's like putting 1 or 6 bullets in the chamber of a six-shooter.
A bad driver is anyone who on any given day might put their car where they wouldn't have wanted to.
