Anyone with any experience in booking, flying, staying or events in Vegas that they'd care to share?

I'll be hitting you up for advice after your trip. We are headed there in a few months :)

This is about the only thing we've settled on for sure (other than accomodations which we are getting through our vacation club). Still debating on which of the Cirque shows to see. If Terry Fator is at the Mirage when we are there (not on tour), we'll be taking in his show also (I wish they would upate his 2013 schedule).

I'll be interested to hear what you found worthwhile and what you discovered that you could have lived without :)

I was there 5 years ago or so. Look around to get a good price on a hotel. You shouldn't have to pay more than $60 for a decent room. If you want more luxury, try Bellagio, Wynn or Venetian.

I went to see "O" at the Bellagio, it is pretty amazing. The stage can transform into a giant swimming pool in a matter of seconds.

There are better deals on food and stuff downtown. I remember getting to the buffet at the Golden Nugget just as it was changing from breakfast to lunch. We paid about $9 for the breakfast, and within 10 minutes, a hip of beef buffet was brought out. It was so good and filling, we actually forgot to see the Golden Nugget.

You can sit through a 2-3 hour time share presentation for free tickets to a show. I guess it's up to you if that is worth your time.

The Dueling Pianos bar at NY NY is a pretty good time.

Not sure if it's still there, but there was a GM test track perhaps down by the Stratosphere (?). For $10, you could take 2 laps around a track with a Corvette or other vehicle. Or, you could do 1 lap with the Corvette and 1 lap around an obstacle course with a Hummer. I did the 1 and 1 and the Hummer ride was pretty damn awesome. You have to blow a breathalyzer, so make sure you're sober.

That's abotu all that I remember. Enjoy.

I'd be all for that, except my better half is not interested.....I'll take some notes.

Was there in 2008. Everything Kanye said was bang on for our trip. I will add a couple of things.

Weekday hotel rates are rock bottom cheap, but the weekend makes up for that. So be aware of that. Look for a hotel mid strip to make touring the strip easier. We stayed at Bills gamblin hall, which is attached to the Flamingo and is as close to center strip as you can get. First day we went south on the strip and north the next day.

Be prepared for a lot of walking. Some neat design features on the hotels make them look closer than they actually are.

There are a couple of discount ticket outlets that have great deals for shows that day. In my opinion much better than sitting through a time share presentation. But everyone is different.

Go downtown in the evening to get the most out of the Fremont Street Experience show. It is pretty cool! We took the bus to get down there and had no issues.

Avoid the monorail. It may seem like a great thing but it runs behind all the properties, so you end up walking just as much or further just getting to and from the monorail. As well some resorts have their own shuttles that run between their properties. If you are getting a rental car remember all parking is free at the casinos which is great for going to the properties not on the strip (Rio, Palms, Hard Rock, as well as the Sahara, Circus Circus, and Stratosphere are all separated from the main part of the strip)

Sorry for the rambling post! If you have any questions please ask as I did a ton of research when we went down and am doing some trip planning for my father in law as I type this. Also the forums on trip advisor for Las Vegas are very good as well.

So Foxrun, let's hear about some of the highlights and lowlights of your trip a few weeks ago. :)

Highlights
The weather was excellent.(22-27 no hunidity)

We stayed at LVH(former Hilton). The hotel was off the main strip so we cab'ed to and from, which was cheaper then the monorail.

We managed to see 2 shows - Terry Fader and America's got talent top , both were worth the money.

We did not get to see the Hoover Dam(didn not like the passe process) or the Grand Canyon( the ladies didn't want to lose a whole day)

The outlet shopping was very much like the one's in Florida(good for her not for me)

Lowlights
Internet access was 13.99 per day.

Little things like coffee and bagels were pretty expensive in the hotel.

One of our connecting flights got cancelled and we were 24 houts late getting home.....United Airway and Air Canada do not interact well when it comes to rebooking.

Overall

Excellent trip

If we go again, we would not stay as long and will be more particular with arrival and departure times.

A little tip for anyone travelling to Vegas at some point in the future.

If you can work it into your plans, take a trip to Sedona, Arizona. It is only a 4-5 hour drive from Vegas (only a bit further away than a trip to Grand Canyon Village). The drive down Rte 89A from Flagstaff is incredible as you descend thousands of feet down switchbacks into Oak Canyon.

We allocated only one day here and that may have been a mistake ... already considering what changes to our itinerary we can make to allow us to get back here later in our trip.

And what is a trip to Las Vegas without a visit to the Hoover Dam? And what is a trip to the Hoover Dam without a walk out onto the new bridge to take a picture of the Hoover Dam?
