Our family is considering purchasing a piece of property in the Malpeque area but have been told that the mosquitoes are so bad that the kids won't be able to play outside. Are they really that bad? Are they any worse than any other part of the island?

They are pretty bad. Depending on where you are there always seems to be a prevailing wind that limits them somewhat but on a warm calm day they can be unbearable. A mosquito magnet or similar device helps a lot.

The mosquitoes seem to be better this year, maybe has to do with the summer being so dry thus far. I was at Marco Polo and Crystal Beach campgrounds this past weekend, and there were hardly any mosquitoes...and normally Crystal beach is saturated with them.
I grew up visiting my grandparents in the Malpeque area, and I don't remember ever having to stay inside due to mosquitoes.

Same here. Only one grandparent though. I think the real mosquito issue is by the water in the Princetown area.

I don't know about this year but last year was wicked! I went (or tried to go) clam digging in the Malpeque - Princetown area and I am not sure if there were more inside the car or outside. I shudder just thinking about it. I was like fresh meat and I didn't have time to dig once.

In all of the time I've spent tending my garden and lawn etc. this year I have not seen a single mosquito. That's not to say there are none just that I haven't seen one. I have encountered other biting pests but not in any great numbers. We don't live near any ponds or other standing water sources so that would be a factor.

I have a piece of property in Malpeque (royalty pt rd) and I HAVE noticed a sharp increase in mosquito numbers beginning a few years ago. This year seems to be better due to lack of rain but still can be pretty terrible some evenings. Does anyone have a clue as to why the mosquito population has gotten so out of hand in this area recently?
