Hey folks,

Any thoughts on the above? I'm currently using an Eastlink modem and Linksys router. Would there be any gains?

thanks

I'm using the combo now. Great when it's hardwired to the main desktop but I find the wireless range very limited.
I bought a wireless range extender to reach other parts of the house.

How limited is the range? Vertical or horizontal?

thanks

You would be much better off buying a router known to be reliable. You can get a netgear wndr 3500 for under $40, or a wndr 3700 dual band for around $80. Belkin also has a pretty good dual band unit for under $50. The wndr 3500 is even sweater in that it has many third party firmware offerings to choose from.

We have a lousy setup. 2200 sq. feet. mostly on one level.
The lousy part is that the whole modem/router setup is at one end of the house.
Decent coverage extends to about 60% of the house. I guess if the main system was centered in the house we wouldn't have many issues upstairs or down.
There is also an option of a USB receiver. A couple of our laptops don't have decent hardware but when I plug in a new USB receiver and disable the on-board receiver I get better reception.

That option is not available for the smart phone though.
