Hi just deciding which car rental to use when we visit PEI. The decision is between Discount Car Rental or National. Any differences?

Magda, we had company in June who saved $200 taking a taxi to the Budget Rent Car downtown compared to the airport rates. They had the car for two weeks, unlimited mileage.

Airports are usually considered premium locations and have a surcharge for this or just generally higher rates, redrocket is right, check the rates for other Charlottetown locations as well. A cab is easy to get and not expensive within Charlottetown.

Yes, the rates even within the same company are higher at the airport location...so are the taxi's for that matter.

The absolute worst-case is an airport rental with a remote drop off. A couple of years ago I had a bad set of flights and the closest I could get to Ch'town was Moncton. Rented a car at the Moncton airport, dropped it off downtown in Ch'town. I had the car somewhat less than 2 hours. It cost $700 plus gas.

Flying out of Halifax and back into Charlottetown. Our transportation to Halifax fell through and the out of province drop was so prohibitively expensive that it was cheaper to just book a flight from Charlottetown a day early and spend the night at the airport hotel.
