Hello there,

Just moved here and looking for ways to meet people, as it only took one game for me to realize that my soccer career was definitely over. I am a 30 year old woman who works in health care and loves animals, sports, the outdoors and of course, books!

Now that I googled "how to start a book club", I feel quite prepared: http://bestsellers.about.com/od/bookclu ... b.htm....I just need members!

Any takers?

I might be interested, depending... not to sound like I've been under a rock, but what is a book club? Is it a group that agrees to read the same book then talks about it, or people that exchange books they've read or something? I probably couldn't do that because I use an e-reader..

Hi FluteSong,
It's a group that gets together to discuss books they've read. The books are chosen by the group. It's also a social gathering. An E-reader is fine!

That sounds nice :-)

Sure, I'm interested. There would be times that I couldn't come because I work shift work, but when I can, I would love to.

Excellent! I just noticed I answered your last post under my fiance's account in case you were wondering who "Rambo" was. I have had one other person express interest so far, and I just posted the ad on kijiji. I'm thinking once we have 4 people together we can talk about possible dates/times. We can work around schedules if the group stays small.

:)

I think that's a great idea, I'm in! By the way, the public library has a pretty great selection of "Book club kits", there are 10 copies of a single book as well as a discussion guide/questions in case the discussion is falling flat on its own. You can have the kit for 6 weeks, so it gives everyone enough time to read it and meet.

I will definitely check out the library books on it, thanks for the suggestion!

Can everyone send me their email addresses if they haven't already, I have a post on kijiji too and I want to start a mailing list to schedule the first gathering rather than try to reply to everyone on both sites:)

Thanks!

Ladies only, because you don't think men can read a book and have an opinion on it?

Perhaps because she prefers the company and discourse of other women?

It doesn't have to be just to slight men.

I'm looking to join a bookclub, too, and was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction on where to find one.

Thanks

Vinyl Cafe has a recent (last couple months) podcast on book clubs, has some interesting history of book clubs in Canada for anyone interested.
