I just got my acceptance letter in the mail today for Holland College. Now I just have to start looking for an pet friendly apartment that allows dogs, roommate, get a student loan, etc. Lol.

I can't wait till September! :D

I got accepted to both the Tourism and Travel Management, and Hotel and Restaurant Management. Now I just have to decide which one to take. I think it's gonna be the Tourism and Travel one.

I thought about applying for the photography course as well, but I've mostly self taught myself, and I am still doing so. I decided to go with tourism.

It's somethign I've wanted to take now for a couple years but just kept putting off and this year I decided to go for it.

So what is island life like? I'm thinking I will be living someplace as close to the school I can get. I don't have a car so will be walking. Already I've read sites about moving to PEI, and what not but I would like to hear some people's personal expericences if you don't mind sharing. :)

Thanks!

I'd suggest looking into funding from Skills Development as opposed to student loans. With Skills Development, 80% of your tuition could be paid for. The catch is, you have to be EI (employment insurance) eligible. If you've had an EI claim in the past 3 years you'd be EI eligible. Or if you are going to work for the summer then get laid off, you could file for EI. Here's a link to some information. I'd strongly encourage you to check it out if you haven't already. Could save you thousands of dollars.

Just a heads up... Most of the people I know who got a student loan had an awful time trying to deal with the people at the office and getting their money. Have fun with that.

yep i suggest the ei route.. what ever they are callin the program now.. i got about 20 grand for my 2 years in college.. wich covered everything from tuition to daycare to travel. i only had to pay about 3000 all toll.. but i was lucky due to my work situation i didn't set off the triggers to start the payback of my portion. and there is a max they can make you pay back or there was when i went threw.. was only a few grand per year.

Personally I would recommend the Hotel and Restaurant Management program.
Great instructors there and lots of employment options.

no offence, and not to discourage you.. but I know A LOT of people who took the tourism and travel program and it did nothing for them, they weren't able to find a good job in the field at all, and now work as front desk clerks at hotels or in call centres

Welcome!
My son took Tourism Hospitality management. He's graduating Saturday and going on to UPEI for a business degree - which you can get if you do 2 years in the HC program and 2 years in the UPEI program.
He's also very single, tall, and good looking.
