So I went out today with my camera trying out my new telephoto. Just hand held trying out various f stops in aperture priority mode. Any way as I posted in another thread it seemed difficult to find software other than the canon provided app for viewing and/or converting raw images, and that left out linux. Anyway found this open source application and it works great. Played around with the following blurry crooked image, just sliding the controls around etc.

UFRaw can be downloaded from source forge here for windows
Playing around with different F stops can be fun but large lens it seems needs to be on a tripod. I bought a tripod from the source that is not too bad.
This image of a kid passing by I was a little more steady with the lens.

Not that I'm calling you creepy, but do you know this "kid passing by"? If not, it's very wrong to take her pic and post it on the internet. I have no doubt it's totally innocent...but still.

Some would feel that creepy is someone that feels the need to suggest something creepy when the only thing that is creepy is the post that that person felt necessary to post. Not that I'm calling you creepy of course.

Was just speaking as a dad of a girl near that age. If it was my daughter that you posted a pic of I'd be livid. Don't be offended...I'm just suggesting that you be more careful.

Canon's DPP may be your best bet for raw viewing/processing for free.

General rule of thumb is to keep the shutter speed over 1/focal length; If you're at 300mm, the shutter speed needs to be at least 1/300s (more like 1/480 if you take into consideration any sensor crop). At 75mm 1/75th or greater.

You can try using shutter priority to set your shutter speed when hand held.

Thanks, I'll give it a try next time I'm out.
