So recently my computer had a virus, which required it to be wiped and restored. I just went to download pictures off my camera, and I no longer have Zoombrowser.

I think when I first installed it, it was just off teh camera plugged in - like automatically.... but it didn't do that this time!

So I did a quick google and have no ideas what sites I can trust - so for you camera geniuses.... HELP!

I have a Canon A590 if that matters..... if I can't get zoombrowser - is there another free program I can get? Running Vista on my computer....

Thanks in advance!

What does Zoombrowser do? Or, rather, for what purposes do you use it?
I have it on my computer, I believe, but never use it.

Personally, I use Picasa for pretty much all my camera-computer needs. It's a Google program.
You can upload (import) pictures from your camera with it, and use it to organize and view all the photos stored on your computer.

Sounds like you were using ZoomBrowser to initiate the download software (a separate utility) and that is where your real problem lies ? As Rob notes, ZoomBrowser itself is just a picture management tool.

I had ZoomBrowser (and associated Canon utilities) for XP. When I went to Vista, I couldn't get a Vista version of the Canon utilities to do my downloading with. After some online research, I discovered that I could change a setting on my Canon camera to specify P2P connectivity, which allowed Vista's (and now Windows 7) drivers to work just like most other camera devices (i.e. the camera shows up as a device on your Windows Explorer (aka "my computer") and you can transfer the pictures that way). Or Picassa would also be able to download your pictures.

You can trust Canon's site. Your Zoombrowser (and manual etc) is here:

Thanks everyone....

I use zoombrowser to upload pics and organize - and some edits.... I am by no means a photo or computer expert - so liked the fact it was easy to use ;) haha

I did end up getting the program back.... I could only find an update on teh canon site, so had to download an old version first..... seems to be ok - and computer has not melted down yet ;)
