I got a new camera a few weeks ago. Nothing fancy, but at least something that I can manage to take a few snaps with. Well, now I am wanting to do more with my pictures and am in search of software for editing pictures. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Free software suggestions, even better. Thanks!!

http://www.picnik.com/

good, easy to use, free. if you want extra features you can upgrade for a minimal fee as compared to a lot of editing software.

here's ones that provide links to free open source photoshop alternatives. photoshop is the top of the mountain for picture editing software.

Here are a couple.

Paint.NET at http://www.getpaint.net/download.html

Gimp at http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

I use both, but each for different purposes.

2nd-ing picnik.

Also, if you use Picasa as a photo organizer, it now syncs with picnik on the web, so it's all seamless and easy.

the question nobody has asked so they can help provide you with the most accurate information is:
What are you wanting to do with the software? There are *many* options but they all do things differently, some do things others don't-some do things better than others etc.

Help us help you. :)

True enough nb132. :) I just want to be able to add effects, like B&W, sepia tone, fisheye, add text to the pictures, maybe a little retouching.
