Post subject:  Moving to Charlottetown area

Hi everyone. I'm a former Islander and I'm thinking of moving "back home." I used to live in Summerside, so I don't know much about the Charlottetown area. We are a young family (two kids under 6) and looking for neighbourhoods that are family friendly, have good daycares and schools nearby, etc.

I visited the Charlottetown area this fall when I was scouting for neighbourhoods and I was impressed with Cornwall and Stratford. Both seem like nice communities to raise a family, but the facilities and parks in Cornwall seemed to be a bit better overall. Cornwall also seemed to be more community-focused, whereas Stratford was more prone to urban sprawl and everything seemed to be far apart. Right now we think we would prefer:

1. Cornwall
2. Stratford
3. Somewhere in Charlottetown city limits (West Royalty or East Royalty, maybe)

I have read several posts on this forum debating Cornwall vs. Stratford, but they are a few years old now and the information might not be up to date. Can someone give me some advice?

Cornwall has pretty much all of the amenities that Charlottetown and Stratford to. I do most of my grocery shopping in Charlottetown though.

You kids can go through the entire school system and not be more than 15 minutes away from their school.

A new pharmacy with some health services has just opened.

Fire Department is minutes away.

Community is safe and relatively crime free.

I've got three kids under 7 and we've been in Cornwall just over a year. It's been great so far. I love being close to Charlottetown and the Town has a number of family friendly activities throughout the year. Cornwall is a little lacking in businesses but again, you're super close to Charlottetown so it's not a big issue.

Are your kids in daycare? Was it difficult to find spaces?

If you're going to be working in Charlottetown then you might want to consider option 3.

If you are considering West Royalty there's a nice new subdivision being developed on Salisbury Cres. Cohen court

And what would it take someone to get into a new house there?

I'm not sure what the daycare situation is like. One of my kids is in grade one and another attends the Montessori school in Cornwall which is great.
