Post subject:  Is Northern PEI a decent area to live in?

Hello PEI'ers. I'm looking at three different properties and they are all up in the northern area of PEI. I'm looking for house and a barn on a few acres. I wanted to repurpose the barn into film and photo sets so I can work on my hobbies.

My price range is around the $80,000 mark. I've seen a few properties that I like but they seem to be on the northern part of the island. Tignish, Elmsdale, I think it is.

But I'd like to rent out the house that I buy. Would I be able to rent out a property in any of these areas? The properties are out of any city/town.

What's the good and the bad things about the northern parts of PEI?

I heard that the northern end is crazy bad for mosquitos in the summer but that's about all I know about that area so your feedback is really important to me.

Thank you in advance for your answers.

I think most people on PEI think of the north shore when you say northern PEI. If you're thinking of Tignish/Elmsdale area, most people refer that as up west.

Anyway, I think you might have a difficult time renting out a house in the Tignish/Elmdale area. My sister in law lives up there and I'm pretty sure there was only one place for rent when she was looking. I don't know if it's bad for mosquitos. Good luck!

It's like a different climate than central or east PEI too. Like northern New Brunswick weather. Even on a hot day there can be a chill in the air. I kinda miss it - I prefer cooler temps and spent a lot of time visiting relatives in the area in my youth. Nice area to live, but I don't think I'd want to rely on renting out.
