Hey there, my husband and I are doing some research on moving to pei. We have a few fears, the biggest one being jobs. My husband is a commercial construction worker, he's run jobs, and his company has built many big projects. I know there isn't many commercial projects on the go in pei like there is in Toronto but would he have a chance at getting a job with the experience he has?

I myself plan on going to school but right now I have experience in culinary and pastry. I am thinking about starting a small buisness to help us get by while I go to school.

We wonder what taxes are like. We've heard that wages are less, and taxes are more. Does everything really cost more because you are on an island? What are groceries like for a family of four? How much is gas at your gas station right now? Does everyone use heating oil or propane? Is there any natural gas on pei because we've heard there isn't?

Thanks for the help :)

Hi there and welcome!
I work at a building supply store and we have many contractors that shop there. Last yr. was very busy with building, this yr. not so much. But there always seems to be a need for skilled trades here.
Income taxes are high here, and wages are lower here. Other things are much cheaper: housing, property taxes, car insurance. Groceries are somewhat higher here. I spend about $150 wk for two adults. Gas right now is 99.9 I believe. Not everyone uses oil or propane. Wood stoves pellet stoves and especially heat pumps are popular as well. Electric is high here, but probably not as high as in Ontario right now. There is no natural gas here. Let me know if there is anything else you would like to know! We are a friendly place and welcome newcomers. I myself have lived here almost 7 yrs. We moved here when my husband retired.
