|Post subject:||Sirens presents "Songs for a Winter's Night"|
Following their May 2013 debut, Sirens is back to serenade Island audiences with music of the season. On Sunday, December 8th, 8:00 PM, Sirens will perform “Songs for a Winter's Night” at Trinity United Church, Charlottetown.
Formed in November 2012, Sirens is a self-directed women's choral ensemble named after the singing femmes fatales of Greek mythology. Members have a passion for collaborative music making and have extensive backgrounds in choral singing including the National Youth Choir of Canada, Nova Scotia Youth Choir, Montreal Symphony Chorus, Saskatoon Chamber Singers, Festival Ensemble of Stuttgart and Charlottetown's Confederation Singers. Without a conductor, the singers collectively choose concert themes, repertoire and lead rehearsals. “Songs for a Winter's Night” will launch Sirens' first-ever concert season which will include two full length concert performances, as well as several community engagement activities.
“Songs for a Winter's Night,” an entirely a cappella programme, exposes the natural blend of the female voice in rich, warm harmonies. Contemporary settings of both sacred and secular texts are featured in this diverse collection of songs. The programme includes a non-traditional, hypnotic spin on Ave Maria by Canadian composer David MacIntyre; settings of Da Pacem and Hodie Christus Natus Est; and arrangements of seasonal carols including Quelle est cette odeur agréable?, Patapan, and The Holly and the Ivy.
Tickets available at the door; admission is $10/person and $20/family. Visit http://sirenschoir.com for more information.
