Seeing as how a discussion started about cards under the boardgames post   I thought I 'd start a topic on cards too.

I am not a HUGE fan of cards but the odd time I like playing crib and shaft.

I used to know how to play lots of games when I was a kid but don't remember too many of them anymore...

I love playing cards. When our family would all get together we'd have the table full and play games like bang (as mentioned before), pass the ace, auction, 45's - oh I could go on and on. Many long nights - and alot of fun!

I was going to mention a couple Armetis did, 45's, crib, pass the ace. Another one I enjoyed from the West coast but haven't played since returning East was Wizard.

... lol!... he he, yeah i'd have to say Bang! is also one of my favorites as well.,but it's true it's alot more fun and interesting with a large group. Unfourtunatly, the only time I ever really get to play it,is when the boyfriend and I go over to visit his grandfather, with the rest of the family.

It's quite amusing at times to see the old guy try to be all serious and involved in the game, usually after he's had a few beer in him. He's the type of person that you can't take seriously because he's always going on and joking about something ,and just when he lets his guard down for that half of second,Bang!, the grandkids usually end up burning him in the end! Ah poor guy, he knows we love him though, but now that I think about it, it still makes me laugh!

LOL Yeah - it's a great game that everyone can play - young and old and in between! And you CAN have a few beer - cause you don't have to concenrate too much in this game.

Hey - have you ever played "burn"?

I think I may have once ,but I'm not quite sure.Is the objective of the game to get three cards of the same number, like three of a kind? You can use the wildcards, like jacks, two's or aces to make the trio? The objective being to get as many trio's(sets of three) as possible, add up the points and basically whoever has the highest amount of points (face value of the sets of cards) wins?.... correct me if I'm wrong here.

Nope! LOL Actually another fun game for a table full. Each person starts with a score of 15. Everyone gets 5 cards and then one card is turned over. If it's an ace - everyone stays in and you have to follow that suit. If a 10 is turned - there is no particular suit and you don't have to stay in if you want. The object of the game is to get at least one trick. You go around the table after the cards are dealt and each person (in order) can decide if they want to stay in or not. You have to follow suit and the cards run from ace down to 2. If you stay in and you don't get a trick you get "burned" and you go up 5 points (and pay a quarter - lol - we like to gamble  ) For those that got a trick - you deduct one point from your 15. First person to get to zero wins. (And those who didn't - paid a nickle per point). Oh - if you're score goes to 3 and below - you HAVE to stay in - no choice. There may be another name for this game - but that's what we always called it! (Oh - warning - could take hours!!!) :D

Well we always played with everyone starting with 4 quarters. Each person gets 5 cards. First person plays a card - if the next person has the same card they "bang" that person and they have to pay a quarter. You keep playing until only one person has money left and they win "the pot". It's fun with a group!

I've played this once and loved it - but can't remember how to play it...how many people are needed? I played with four - so am thinking that's probably the magic number.

It can be played with two people, but it is better with four!
