Does anybody have any suggestions for the cheapest place to get these, or cliff bars, or whatever brand...

I do alot of mountain biking, and usually need a pick-me-up during the ride. Getting tired of spending $2 a piece.

Why not just pack high calorie real food like cashews or dried fruit and some water?

I do that too, but the engineered bars and gels are more effective.

Buy them wholesale at Price Chopper cash & carry, or Costco

Sorry. Kays Bros never carried PowerBars.

Fig Newtons are equal to PowerBars except in the way they are marketed. But, if you think you are faster, jump higher or are stronger because you eat them, fill yer boots. There is such a thing as a psychological advantage.
