OK, I've always wanted to know how to hook a rug, so this spring with the help of the internet I hooked my first rug and I'm very please with it. But now, for the love of me, I just don't quite understand the instructions I read on how to bind one. :? Don't suppose there is anyone that could explain it to me. [-o<

i usually bind mine before hooking the rug...much easier, what are you going to use to bind it? you can crochet around it as well.

I bought 1 3/4 " twill tape and sewed it on before I started - thinking it would be easier at the beginning too - but I put it on too far away from the mat edge thinking I could just fold it over at the end like a hem - too much bulk. I'll have to remove that now. Can I still manage to the tape somehow or will I have to use something else? Thanks for any suggestions you can give me. Once I get this one figured out I'll be fine.

I'd leave the tape on and roll the edge under then stitch it. Use a damp pressing cloth on the seam or you could follow these directions.

hope it helps

Thanks, I went looking for this thread and couldn't find it. I am making a hooked mat and one side I forgot to fold the edges under .. I am too stubborn to take it all out!!

Thanks MJ. The visuals will make it a lot easier. Once this heat wave subsides I'll be looking to start another and this will be a big help.
