After much searching, I finally found a bean crock like my mom used to have (at the 70 mile yard sale!).

Now I need a good receipe for baked beans. I don't want them to be the kind that tastes like tomato soup....I want the recipe with molasses....they are sweeter. I'm not sure what else my mom had in them, but they were always good.

Hope you will share your favorite recipe! :D

I always freestyle it so you can adjust the taste as you go. Saute some onions in bacon or salt pork, add your beans and saute them a bit. Add a little brown sugar, bay leaf, molasses, worcesteshire, mustard, some ketchup, garlic, a dark beer and water to cover. Since it takes so long to cook you always have time to adjust your seasonings. I throw in a few more spices for heat like chipotle, but you just put in what you like.

Nice to see this annoying post by hueossks led to Yesitsme responding to Armetis' request for a baked beans recipe. I never thought to put spices and seasonongs in baked beans which is odd because I enjoy red beans and rice so much. Now if I could just find Smoked Ham Hocks somewhere...

YES!! I used a hamhock once and a smoked one another time, great flavor. I have also used smoked sausage, italian sausage and even pulled pork one time. I think I may need a support group for beans #-o

I recently saw Blazing Saddles on cable. The bean scene still makes me laugh.
