to having had Amazon.ca as a best friend? I listen to CBC with a notepad handy and get intrigued by all the authors and books that sound so good. I live in a small town without a bookstore so it was a treat for me to get those lovely brown parcels in the mail. Reality has set in financially and I am proud to admit that yesterday I renewed my library card. There are some books I NEED to to own; you know, the ones you cherish, and gift to others. I had a rare holiday recently....and read 3 books in 5 days, in a hammock near a lake. Could life be better?? Just wondering....Are you library people?

Big on libraries myself. Usually 4-5 books every 2-3 weeks. Almost all nonfiction. Wife says I should lighten up and read a mystery or something lighter once in a while!

I'm an avid reader and was a big library user but I have switched to eReading on my phone. I download books for free using torrents and I have not set foot in the library in 3 months. That being said, it's not the same as holding a book in your hands but it is very convenient as you always have something to read with you. I also find that I can download a new book shortly after it's been released as opposed to waiting months for the library to get it and being placed on a waiting list. That being said, I'm not giving up on the library as I'm sure I'll be using it again when I can't find certain books online.

I love the library but haven't been in months due to the fact that I lost a book and now owe a fee and can't rent any more until I either find the book or pay my fee.

The irony of this story: The book is Debt by Margaret Atwood

amazon is awesome, the books are so cheap, free shipping over a certain amount. i should order books more often, but i find it hard to get into anything not written by stephen king and rarely find time to read these days.

Good feedback. Not even owning a cellphone, the whole e book thing would be foreign.
There's just something about holding a book and turning pages at will. I can still listen to CBC and get the names of promising titles, then let my library do the walking. I just requested a movie set in AB from 1988, and the lady said, no problem. I work at a senior's facility and bi monthly a volunteer comes who would do anything to get them what they want. Anyway, thanks for the response and I like having the book forum on this site. It might not be the most popular one, let's just say deeper. :)

And to red rocket...twice a year our library has a day that they will waive your fines if your bring in a donation to the foodbank. It was even mentioned on CBC's Rick Mercer show. It must work, and would rid you of the "guilt". :D
