Post subject: The Mists of Avalon-by Marion Zimmer Bradley
PostPosted: May 22nd, 2008, 12:30 pm
We are always looking for books for me to read and orca came across The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. First published in 1982. The book is more than 876 pages in length and centres on the world of King Arthur's time from the women's perspective during his life. There were roughly 8 key women the novel center's around.

For myself, there was only one drawback for this book, and it lead me taking more than two months to read it. Many of the names, locations and titles were so similar that I found myself rereading a page a few times to ensure I was following the story correctly.

If you are a fan of books from King Arthur's time, this is definitely worth reading. I like how Marion was able to weave her tale among the other stories written about Arthur and making it merge in a believable and enjoyable fashion.

The book we bought was part of the Reader's Circle, and has 10 group discussion questions at the back of the book. If anyone has read this book let me know.

I've read the entire series by Marion Zimmer Bradley. I think there are six in all.

The King Arthur story has always been very interesting to me and I enjoyed her take on the legend.

It's been a few years since I've read the books but I've kept them in my bookshelf for the inevitable dust off and re-read that will happen sometime.

Some of the other books include: Priestess of Avalon, the Forest House, Lady of Avalon - I want to say there is another but I can't remember it right now.

You should check the rest of them out!

I just finished a book by Robert Carter called The Language of Stones. It's about the return of King Arthur and deals with his "coming of age " and discovering who he is. A slightly different take on the legend as we know it.
I liked it ! There is a follow-up ,but I haven't gotten my hands on it yet! :D
