After reading about the huge jumps in monthly bills, I guess our monthly bill isn't too bad.

It wasn't advertised but Aliant gave us a 2 year fiber op bundle @ $110. monthly with no contract. 17 months still left on it. We'll decide at that time what we'll do.

"Home Phone And Long Distance
• FibreOP Home Phone Service with Emergency 911
• 5¢ World Long Distance Plan
• Voicemail (Includes Voicemail-to-Email)
• Call Display • Call Forwarding
• Call Return • Call Waiting
• 3 Way Calling"

"Digital TV
• FibreOP TV HD
• Access to Pay-Per-View Movies & Events
• Picture in Picture Program Guide
• Movies Package,Cravetv and Kids Suite
• Personal Video Recorder (PVR)
• HD Advantage"

"FibreOP Internet 150/30"

Wow, you're lucky.
We at one time were paying
$75 including tax for basic bell satellite with 15 year old receiver. Got rid of that and got netflix+antenna (cbc/ctv/global)
~$70 including tax for basic internet (1.5mbit download all we can get).
Probably $30-40 a month for basic landline phone. Though I have no idea, havn't looked at bill recently.

We are, compared to some other Islanders like yourself. It's not fair to charge those kind of fees for very basic services you mentioned because you happen to live in a rural area.

It seems to me the huge gap between what we personally have access to but some of you don't, then reducing the prices would be the right thing to do. That's not going to happen with pretty much any company that has shareholders to answer to for example.

We were in your situation for at least 9 years on dial-up due to location & I remember thinking how lucky so many other Islanders were, being able to have a choice of internet speeds for close to what we were paying for an average download speed of 20bps. That was not too bad back in the mid 90's when a file download for us was perhaps a few megabytes. I know they say they're doing all they can but like many I don't agree.

My DSL has been acting up over the past month or so too.

The Tech came out. He said there was a line problem between me and the nearest CO (¿Central Office ?). They did something works fine again. Better than before actually. I get 6+M now, before I was only getting 5M and the upload is .586M. It was .640M ...

It should be working well. $79.45/mo plus a $10.00 High-Speed Network Charge for a total of $101.97 a month for DSL. That is Crazy.
DSL should be $50 tax(es) in. What a Rip-off ‼

That reminds me I have to all Route2 .

Last Result:
Download Speed: 6683 kbps (835.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 586 kbps (73.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 17 ms
Jitter: 1 ms
Packet Loss: -1%

That's almost what we pay as I mentioned above.

Most of us would agree that we need a lot more competition not only for these services but in a lot more too. How about more choices where we shop for food. 25 years ago we had a few choices.

What is the "$10.00 High-Speed Network Charge"?

Is that the "you don't have bell landline phone so f**k you" charge?

My bill today:

High-Speed Network Charge $10.00 ("no phone line" charge)
Wireless Modem Rental & Support 4 $3.95
Bell Aliant High-Speed Ultra $79.45
Total Internet charges $93.40
Plus HST $13.077

Amount Due $106.47

This is ludicrous. My internet speed has been steadily declining since last spring and I'm having to power cycle the modem at least 3 times per week. I'm lucky to hit 3-4mbps on a good day, despite paying for "up to 7.5mbps." If there was ANY stable alternative to Bell Aliant, I'd be gone in a flash.
