Sounds like it's time for you to do a scan with Malwarebytes.

I'd spank the computer. Do you have the O/S install disk? Keep Now is as bad as a browser hijacker or a trojan downloader. I think it is a "best of both worlds" malware.

Hesus - who has that type of money.

Just run Linux.

Anyway - a quick Google showed lots of Howto sites for removal of the browser add on.

Such as - http://www.fixyourbrowser.com/removal-i ... val-guide/

Have you tried the software recommended in the link that Phil provided?

Is it there constantly?
There are versions of the malware that actually change your desktop image with the "popup" image embedded.

It looks like a full scan of the defender removed it......thanks again!

If you have a registry cleaner you should run it. Keep Now is known for infecting the registry.

Whenever I go on these repair missions I usually find that just formatting and reinstalling the OS(make sure it is clean if not original disks) ends up saving time, nothing worse than spending 4+ hours troubleshooting to end up formatting anyway..... :)

Rather than reformatting all the time why not image your hard drive to another hard drive, external or what have you, and then simply reinstate it when and if you have a problem. The image is only as large as the data on the drive and is also compressed so usually half the size again, allowing you to have multiple images from shortly after you set up a new system to incremental images there after. If you partition the drive with something such as gparted with windows installed on a partition of it's own and the data on a separate partition you need only image the partition containing windows. The images can also be made to dvd or blu-ray, single or multiple. macrium reflect free edition is a great tool for imaging hard drives, just don't forget to either create a recovery cd or bootable recovery flash drive to do the restore from. Best part is, it like gparted is free.

Viruses no, browser hijackers? perhaps.
Macks don't get viruses because no one is really writing any for macs, and windows viruses can't run on a mac natively. There is just no incentive to write a virus for a platform used by such a small group of users.

Mac's don't get virus's or popup ads?

I've had a Mac for four years and I've never had any anti-virus software. So far, so good.

Normally I don't either, but I believe this popup ad came from the other half downloading free book....
