I logged in this morning to check my email and what do ya know...mora changes! Now when you check your email you are automaticaly logged onto messenger which I NEVER use and have no plans to. Does anybody know if there is a way to sign yourself out so that I can read my emails without being tortured by people. I dislike live chat and don't have the time for it so this is very annoying to me ](*,)

I hate it. I have two email addresses, one with the .ca and one with .com

The .ca one is still on the classic menus, etc...but my hotmail.com address is all new. I am in the same boat, I hate messenger launching automatically and I could not find a way to disable it or at the very least set it to automatically appear offline.

With me, it is not so much that I don't want to talk to a particular person, so much as I just want to check my email, without being tied up in a conversation. My employer seems ok with us checking personal emails, but I am pretty sure that they would frown upon us using an IM service on company time. It would be nice if it either had an option to not sign into messenger, or at least have the 'appear offline' option.

Woo hoo...found out how to sign out, appear offline, other statuses....if you look at the top right-hand corner of the hotmail interface, you will see your name with a little green dot beside it on the left. If you click on your name, a list of available options will appear in the dropdown and you can sign out etc...from there.

I signed into it "appear offline" just the once and every time the stupid thing used to sign me it at least it signed me in that way. Hate the thing and I don't know why I just don't uninstall it!

Ha! Nugget beat me to the podium - also just discovered the green dot by my name. Clicking 'sign out' will keep it from automatically signing in to messenger next time you log in to hotmail.

I also recommend checking your privacy settings. Seems like they reset all of my settings to both broadcast my updates to everyone and receive everyone and their dog's updates which i absolutely hate. One thing I do like is under the 'Windows live home settings' you can choose to go directly to your inbox when you sign in instead of that useless windows live page.

I got fed up with Hotmail and switched to Gmail

The interface is 100000 times better imo, and I set up POP Forwaring to download all my Hotmail messages into Gmail.

It seems Gmails spam filtering is better too, so it gets alot of it that Hotmail missed traditionally.

Looks like my .ca email is switched, my .com not yet though, not liking the auto sign in either so I turned it off.
