There's a pretty good review of it here, with the good and the bad. The biggest drawback is the lack of available Canadian phone numbers. You'll be able to make free calls to any North American number, but anyone who calls you locally will now be placing a long distance call.

I have one and it does work. Although I have a United States number ,so it is useless to me for incoming calls. Anyone is calling long distance to get me.
Bought it this spring  Tend to impulse shop sometimes. Anyone who wants this one can have it with a fair offer.

My Mom purchased one last year and when we went to set it up realized that she couldn't get a PEI number only Halifax, like arod states. Sent it back because if people don't have a LD plan then they can't call you. Well they can but it will cost them.

Another option is bell for local calls and skype for long distance. $30 a year. A local number will cost you extra though and as far as I know you will need a computer, though there is an iphone/ipod touch app. I use it with my ipod touch and pc.

My fiance has one. She currently lives in the carib so it saves us a lot of money. Works well.

Just wondering if there is any new information on this. For example, any PEI users, can you get a PEI number etc.??? Any info appreciated.

from what i've seen from reviews, etc online MagicJack is at the lower end of VoIP's as far as quality, etc. is concerned. i just switched to Cityfone, it's a home phone service that works via cellphone towers instead of your internet, they have a special on for $10/month (it was extended until the end of Jan.) and includes free Canada-Wide long distance. it uses Rogers towers, but i knew i would get a good signal, my cellphone service uses Rogers towers (PetroCanada Mobility). there are better VoIP's via Fido, Rogers, etc than MagicJack who have specials on now i believe (i can look for the threads if you want). the Cityfone deal is supposed to be only for existing customers with their cellphone service but they seem to be giving it to everyone who calls (i wasn't an existing customer) http://forums.redflagdeals.com/cityfone-zoomer-10-month-home-phone-2065197/
i also ported over my existing home phone number from Eastlink.

I'm using an Ooma device. Works good, buy the device, then the line is free, just pay the gov fees, about $5 month. You can port your phone number over well.
