What's the best way to plan a weekend on the Cabot Trail?

We'd like to go this fall. If there are any places to stay stop or see, I'd like get some suggestions.

Looking forward to the trip!

Make it a long weekend. Two days is a rush, if you plan on actually stopping occasionally.

Oh my - I can only imagine the pics you will take over there. We went 2 years ago on Thanksgiving weekend. It was beautiful. Stayed both nights in Baddeck. Hope you're not looking for much of a night life over there.....well - unless you hit kareoke at the Baddeck Legion! Ha!

Thanks rob, Armetis.

The long weekend is best for us. We'll leave early AM on Saturday with intentions of returning on Monday.

I can't remember some of the places we stopped - but a few were the Alexander Graham Bell Museum in Baddeck, Rita's Tea Room and of course the Fortress of Louisbourg.

I've yet to travel the Cabot Trail. I have seen some awesome photos of the scenery. I'll have to plan a trip there.

The Skyline Trail is a nice hike, but we couldn't hike it with our husky (on our honeymoon) cause there was too many moose.

Fortress of Louisbourg is a little out of the way from the cabot trail and has anyone been there in the off season?

Oh, and if you do it on a motorbike, you'll want to do it multiple times in the same weekend.

What do you consider the "off" season? Thanksgiving weekend was when we were there. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

:) My buddy at work here agrees. I'm not sure if we'll be in the Corolla or Impreza.

That's exactly what I was wondering, thanks. Did they have the actors there and stuff going?

spend the whole day there (they open at 9 or 10). make sure you arrive before they open. its a day to complete their tour/all events. Well worth it.

Best way I found if its scenery you want is Head right for the western side of the Island. You will be following the coast all the way around thru places like Mabou and Cheticamp then you are into the Highlands park.
Lots of places you might want to walk into a little off the beaten path ,waterfalls etc: Should be nice now with the leaves turning!
Spent last weekend in Maine but the rain sort of ruined the scenery
for us . Hopefully we will get a weekend in Cape Breton also before
the end of October :D

I know a great place for a good photo.

As soon as you get to the top of Cape Smokey there a little picnic area off to the right. Park in there and then follow the path that goes off to the left from the parking lot. It's about a 15 minute walk that will take you through a lot of low brush and toward to the edge of the cape.

When you get to the cape there is one spectacular view worth seeing.
