I'm looking to buy a house on the west side of the island. It's a great little property but whoever owned it previously took out the main bearing wall in the center of the house and now the upper floor is slowly sinking towards the chimney. The foundation will also need some repairing it looks like, as some of the floors on the main floor are also tilting a few inches here and there.

Who would be a fair and reliable contractor to talk to regarding such repairs?

Thanks in advance!

First of all welcome to the forum.

From what you are describing it sounds like you need a structural engineer not a contractor. Personally I would walk if not run away from that house because it could be a real money pit.

If you really like the property have a structural engineer take a look it and he should be able to tell you what needs fixing and how much it should cost to fix. The structural engineer should also be able to recommend a reputable contractor to fix the problems.

Cheers!
