You bet your sweet bippy, it was!!!

Quote:
During the first of four broadcasts of Live! With Regis and Kelly produced on Prince Edward Island, the province climbed almost to the top of the list of most-searched topics on Google in the U.S.

Searches for "Prince Edward Island" peaked as the popular U.S. morning television show began airing live at 10 a.m. AT Monday.

The search was still ranked the third most-searched topic in the U.S. four hours later.

Google described the activity on the search term as "volcanic."

The program aired one show live Monday and taped another, and two further shows will be produced on the Island Tuesday. All the shows will air this week.

P.E.I.'s Department of Tourism, with the assistance of Ottawa, spent $1 million to bring the show to the Island.

Also, at the time I posted this, we were trending at the #7 most popular search on Yahoo :D

I totally agree. I think they did a fanatstic job promoting the island and quite a few local businesses. AND there will be 3 more days of it.

Watched it this morning, was a good show. Better in fact than when they do it in New York. Perhaps they will do it here from now on.

I start off to say i did not get tickets, nor did i apply. I have no interest in seeing them.

It has been definitely worth having them, and I hope they had an awesome stay, and would love to come back anytime.
It was a great investment bringing them and was good for the city all the way around. Kudos to the ones that put up with all of the negativity about bringing them over ( many of which were downright embarrassing to the rest of us), you did a great job and i commend you.

pretty hard to argue witht hose google numbers though. but then again, naysayers are hoping this sinks.
its already helped tourism .. according to tonights news, people came here from toronto just to see the show....

Why would they be searching googe for PEI ? Because they do not know where it is.
Also i do not hope this sinks, why? Because it would be comeing out of our pocket to cover the cost of it.I hope it make alot of cash and maybe our taxes or power rates or gas will stay where they are or maybe even drop.

that would seem to me then, that the show has done what its supposed to do , correct?

it has raised the profile of the island, and now that these people know where it is, they may wish to include it in there vacation plans.

they couldnt do that before if they had no idea where or what pei was before correct?

" you have to spend money to make money".

find it very sad that there is an element of the population out there that want this to fail so badly.

do they feel that poorly about the success of pei tourism?

Did I see the same show? I didn't think it was their best show but it was fun watching it. Hopefully the show tomorrow is better.

A few friends of mine went and said they were impressed with it.Most were impressed that Regis is 78 and still able to do what he does. They also said Kelly was funny and they both interacted well together.

How does looking for PEI on Google translate into visitors to PEI? I've searched for many, many different places/things on Google after being introduced to it via the television or other means but that doesn't automatically mean that, a) I'm gonna go there or, b) I'm gonna buy it.

This was supposed to be an effort to boost dismal tourism numbers. Will it? Maybe, but the number will be virtually immeasurable.

It doesn't matter who 'liked' the show. What does matter is, for a $Million, will it pay off for tourism? My guess is no.

You want to talk statistics and use illustrations/graphs? Then come back to this board with the number of new vacations that were planned today, because someone from a place other than the Island, felt compelled to do so, only because this fair Isle was featured on Regis and Kelly.

been hashed out over and over and over in another thread, but, tourism had to start somewhere correct?

exposure has been gained, and you have to admit the google number is an impressive one.

can we measure the impact of the show? probobly not. but, exposure received for a million bucks is obviously a hell of a lot better then amillion bucks spent on commercials. I'd wager big money we didnt get that many google searches after someone saw a tv commercial.

We'll never know for sure how many people will decide to coming to PEI as a result of seeing the show, but i'm sure there will be lots that do. You also have to factor in the ones that have already come to watch the show live. My sister was talking to the people next to her in the line-up today, and they travelled from New York to see the show.

I control 3 tourism related businesses.
All 3 saw record breaking sales figures today and yesterday.
After tomorrow I'm sure combined we will see an increase of 15000 dollars in sales all told, thus directly that is 1500 for the pst coffers. These r three of many businesses in Ch'town, there r many more that would have seen direct immediate increases. Good work everyone involved and may we see the return for years to come.
