Hi Guys,

I am coming for a visit in August to scope out some houses and locations. I have written many posts about 6 months ago and great replies on here regarding lifestyle etc. I wanted to know if anyone has recently made the move and if so how is it going?

I just moved here three weeks ago and we are settling in here nicely. It was a lot of work, to be sure, but well worth it and not as much work as I thought it might be. The worst part was moving in and not getting our stuff for four days. But we survived it! Every time I look out my front window at the view, I think what a great decision it was to move to PEI.

If you need any tips and/or guidance, let me know.

We moved here from Victoria, British Columbia, in February of this year because we were looking to experience a more rural life. We now live just outside the town of Montague and we highly recommend this area because it's friendly, quaint, close enough to Charlottetown if you need to get there (for work perhaps?), and the town of Montague has all the amenities you need: grocery stores, hardware stores, banks, etc. We actually very rarely make the trip to the big city because we have everything we need here in Montague.

Thus far our experience has been fantastic. The biggest positive that sticks out is that we have been absolutely shocked at the helpfulness and generosity of our neighbours. We are really quiet home-bodies but our neighbours drop in often and have become our friends, which is something that we've never experienced before.

We can't speak aout the job market because we are working from home right now and haven't had to look for work on PEI. I've heard mixed perspectives on how difficult it is to get employment. My feeling is that it's just like anywhere else--it's tough to get a job right away no matter where you are, but if you just keep looking hard and are very diligent (keep dropping in with the organization, stay in touch with any connections you might have, never let them forget that you want to work for their organization), I can't imagine that employment would be a problem.

I think I've mentioned this before in another thread, but remember that if you're "from away" like we were and are planning on buying a property with more than five acres, you will have to get approval from the IRAC before your transaction can close. This can take about six weeks. More info here: http://www.irac.pe.ca/document.asp?file ... lpafaq.asp

In case you're interested, we bought an old farm house and we're blogging about our renovation and move to PEI here: www.whimfield.com

Good luck with your move, I'm sure you'll love it!
