That greatly depends where you are.

Answers will vary depending on the location. Where I live, they are well within tolerable levels.

.. and bees, hornets, wasps, earwigs, roaches, spiders, gnats, etc

But we are generally better than many areas of North America in that regard :D

Still quite location dependent, I think.

Mosquitoes primarily, black flies closer to woods. I rarely see horse flies, perhaps because I don't visit area's where they are most common.

Only my experience though.

There are two rules of thumb on PEI if you live in a mosquito area...

1. Never kill one biting you. All the mosquitos know each other here and will use any excuse to attend a wake for one of there brethern.

2. Never leave the keys in your car. They willl steal it.

Phil

ive also lived in both cities, heres my 2 cents:

when it comes to dining, charlottetown has it. I mean, thats one of the first things ive noticed when i moved here: boston pizza, piazza joes, hunters, ganong (sp) house, the buffet at the CDP and the list goes on. Summerside has a few good spots buuttttt im still leaning towards chtown.

crime: i would honestly say that charlottetown is safer then summerside.( i guess it depends on where you live though) Everyday you seem to hear about someones house or car getting broken into in summerside. armed robberies are happening more frequent then ever as a result of a growing number of alcoholics and drug addicts. My garage has been broken into twice (in one week), my fathers ski-doo has been stolen (they tried to steal another one but there was an anti theft device on it luckily), my car has been broken into 3 times, and the place i worked during the summer has been broken into 4 times in less then a month. I know stuff like this happens in charlottetown too, but not as much.

Theres one thing that summerside has on charlottetown though, and that is traffic. The traffic is absolutley terrible in charlottetown, the city has grown but the roads have not (whats with that sherwood intersection anyways??). Mix that with short tempered drivers and extremely short green lights and long red lights make charlottetown possibly the worst driving experiece on PEI. Summerside on the other hand, is usually a walk in the park.

sports: probably a tie...but im saying charlottetown just becuase they have a QMJHL team (that they stole from summerside)

night life: obviously charlottetown here. Im sure theres no argument. although the fights after the bars get out can get a little out of hand.

friendliness: chalk one up for summerside. Its a pretty small close-knit community. And most people are pretty easy going.

in conclusion: if you can deal with slow moving traffic, and kent street being turned into a UFC match on saturday night, then charlottetown is a good choice, although summerside isnt a bad choice either..just dont forget to lock your doors
