The Fox takeover has been a disaster for NASCAR fans, as far as I'm concerned.

Although they still market it as the Speed Channel in Canada, some of the shows that I enjoyed, such as Wind Tunnel and Speed Center are gone completely, while others like Race Day and Victory Lane have been shortened. Many of the race practice and qualifying sessions are now intermittently scheduled.

However, there's no lack of junk like Dumbest Stuff on Wheels, Hard Parts, and RU Faster than a Redneck.

Totally agree.

Agree here also.

I liked Wind Tunnel and Dave Despain, I thought it was a good show that covered other racing as well besides NASCAR. Found it was a way to "stay in the loop" when it comes to other circuits and forms of racing.

The one change that I am really not fond is Raceday being on earlier and doesn't lead into the race, I liked it as part of the pre-race show. It's kinda like having Hockey Night in Canada starting their pre-game show at 5 pm, have the show over at 6 and then come back at 8 pm for the hockey game...doesn't fit.

The thing that gives me a headache is the repetition of the Speed Channel commercials promoting their own shows. Ads for Dumbest Stuff on Wheels, RU Faster than a Redneck and others over and over every 15 minutes ! I can't stand to leave the channel on for very long.
Are they playing those because this is the Canadian version and their salesmen are having problems selling commercial time?

So long as they keep 16+ hours of coverage from Daytona and Lemans 24hr races I'm happy.

Damn the CRTC. :x

Speed TV is gone, and Fox Sports 1 is "not approved for carriage" according to the Bell satellite website. It can't be licensed for broadcast in Canada because some of the content might compete with TSN/TSN2.

So there goes NASCAR practice and qualifying, Race Hub, Victory lane, etc.

Would it do any good for Canadian race fans to band together, maybe start a petition? This would be a good project for you, Kreskin.

I still have it on Bell fiber

it's still showing as speed, and runs the old speed programming (lots of stupid stuff) but I was watching Nationwide qualifying last night, so they do still have that kind of stuff.

This from one of my sources, not official, but someone in the industry.:-

"Speed TV is a foreign service that no longer meets CRTC license conditions, as originally authorized. This is due to significant ownership and format changes.
The actual date of Speed TV's disappearance from Canadian carriers will depend on the expiry date of their existing contracts."

For Rogers subscribers that day was Feb 28.

Another source stated that, to renew contracts, Fox was asking for more money for what has become mostly crap since they took over Speed. Unfortunately, I find that believable.

I think the only thing I'll really lose that I use speed for anymore is the Tudor series. However, given that they can't seem to sort out the new series post merger I won't be missing much.

For F1, NASCAR, and Indy, I'm able to catch those on either TSN or SN. I don't usually watch qualifying for any of them so I'm not too concerned about that.

Oh, just realized that Speed is the only channel in Canada that I'm aware of with coverage of Le Mans. If Bell's contract doesn't cover that I may have issues... (well i already have issues, but I may have new ones)

Looks like Bell Fibre dropped it just in time for me to miss Lemans :(
