The latest rink rumor has it that Cornwall's Adam McQuaid purchased or is in the process of purchasing the Superior Cornwall Thunder Major Midget hockey club.

This purchase entails moving the team from Cornwall to Kensington, has anyone else heard anything like this ?

This hockey club has always been a huge draw for the APM Center, I cannot understand why the move if it's true, both McQuaid and it's current owner are loyal to their community.

I know early in the season there were conflicts between, team management, owners, coaches, parents etc, resulting in a short suspension from hockey PEI. I wonder does this have anything to do with the move, is the town distancing them selves from this club because of the dysfunction ?

Rumor has it two brother's don't see eye to eye on the hockey operations end of things, one is constantly in the whirl wind of controversy and the other simply wants the game to be played, perhaps there's a split here ?

What's the scoop can anyone fill in the blanks ?

Not sure if purchase is the right word but back in January PEI Hockey called for bids for a Major Midjet Farnchise as PEIHOCKEY was taking the franchise from the North River Minor Hockey Association the original stakeholder for the team. They did not manage the team but were responsible for the original bid and any shortfalls. This year PEI Hockey Flexed it muscles and forced out the previous management and purchased the gear off the team. The current management has lost thousands of dollars and that now falls on the parents. Some of the other issues are direct conflicts with PEI Hockey and the league especially when Barry Thompson as part of the disciplinary committee suspend the team when he is also Vice President of the League and VP of PEI Hockey as well making decisions where the team goes. Some would say there is some skull duggery going on here but who knows. Bottom line due to mismangement by the current board the team is in the hole big time which probably has more to do with the move than anything.

It is rumored the McQuaid brothers are interested but I do not know if they put in a bid or not but I doubt Adam would be involved. There is a bid from the Kensington as leaked to many by the Vice President of PEI Hockey association. Bids closed March 6th and once the playoffs are over we shall see where the PEI Hockey Mafia forces the team. To bad if it leaves Cornwall as alot of people used to like going to the games.

IC, Yes perhaps purchase is incorrect terminology to use.

Perhaps it was a bid that was submitted on behalf of the McQuaids, and I agree strongly that Adam likely has nothing to do with this .... again rumours eh.

I like the term "flexed it muscles" and "forced out" current management, LMAO there are two sides to every story and it currently applies itself here.

Yes, I agree again that Barry shouldn't have had a role. Period.

There must be two or more sources to the leak ..."Someone" wants control of the team no matter where they go, a little back room PEI Hockey Mafia as you call it has been going on. Don't be surprised at the outcome, and if a numbered company has sole ownership ...

The way PEI Hockey treats its associations and members nothing will surprise me. The only thing that surprise me is at some point you would think someone would stand up to them but everybody is scared the kids get blackballed and never make a team. Everybody than stays quiet and the old boys club contiues its rule.

Or you would think at some point someone would have smacked Newson or Thompson from some of their interesting rulings on hockey in PEI but we have become to soft I think. Bottom line the team is probably moving from Cornwall to Kensignton and that is where Rob Newson and Barry Thompson and Goops want the team. Anything else doesn't matter. They are god making the decisions and that is a bad thing.
