Figured that this might be the first year that we only did one NASCAR race ('Dega back in April), but now that some good friends are considering going to this race, Mrs. K has me looking into flights, accomodations, car rental, etc.

We've been to the March race here before, but the summer night race is one of those bucket list type of races. If not this year, then next year definitely :)

Yeah, Bristol was on my 'must go' list for many years back when I was young enough to enjoy 'the experience' but tickets were almost impossible to get if you didn't 'know someone'.

Now that tickets are available I keep putting it off for various reasons.

a. We sold our travel trailer.

b. I know (in my rational mind) that about half-way through the race the noise and fumes will get to me.

c. My wife won't enjoy it.

d. I've come to realize that I get a better overall perception of the race on TV. I do miss the scanner talk, however.

I'm not sure what you get on the scanners at a race but the Nascar website has features that you can subscribe to and a scanner is one of them. They had a free pre-view of them for a race a couple of years ago and I thought they were ok, but my wife didn't like it though when Tony Stewart taught our youngest daughter her first swear word :D

You might also want to try TNT's Race Buddy... fewer options than Trackpass (which is offering a free 14 day trial right now) but it is completely free and offers several in-car and track views. I particularly like the pit road camera that you can control yourself.

They do have plenty of motels and hotels between Knoxville and Wytheville :)

Fumes are not an issue and noise isn't an issue if you keep your scanner headset on.

Martinsville and Bristol are two tracks where that definitely isn't the case :)

Okay, okay, I'll go. Next year, for sure. Those were just excuses, anyway. Inertia can set in if one doesn't keep on the move. :)

Exactly!!!

One hint about Bristol ... in respect to the noise factor, I'd suggest that you bring a small note pad and pen to the track with you if communication with your wife - or whoever you may be with - is important. Except during cautions, verbal communication is out.

This little tidbit - one that proved to be very useful - was provided to us before our first Bristol race by the president of the Matt Kenseth fan club, who is a Bristol season ticket holder (she lives in Johnson City) and knows "the ropes". She and her husband have since become friends of ours and anytime we are in the area, we stop in and visit.

Not this year, sadly ... but the number 1 priority for next year.

And seriously thinking about this double header for 2013

but aside from that short journey off topic, Bristol is also on my bucket list. That and a NASCAR event at Daytona. (already did the sports cars there)

I want to do Nationwide in Montreal, but my wife isn't interested in that. Besides, I think this is the last year for them anyway.

Have any of you guys been to that great little track near Antigonish, NS, Riverside Speedway? It's a high-banked 1/3 mile 'mini-Bristol', and not a bad seat in the place.

The Nascar Canadian Tire (old Cascar) series will be there on Sept 17.

I used to go there often back in the ACT days. (American-Canadian Tour)

Some of us "gals" have been there.

Hubby and I go as often as we can. He was there just a couple of weekends ago for the Pro Stock Tour. (Thanks for info for Sept. 17th)

I hope that the excitement of the race translated to TV. Despite Matt's issues, that was the most exciting race I have been to yet :D

I didn't take a ton of pics but I'll post what I got after we get home tomorrow (or maybe not until Wednesday since we'll be exhausted from the drive).

It came across very well on my TV!!! It was the first race in awhile that I didn't fast forward through parts of it. I can't remember the last race that happened.

Can't wait to see the pics...

I keep meaning to put together a collage of pictures to post but always get interrupted and then forget about it again.

But I just came across this pic of us on the bus sitting in the Bristol parking lot waiting for the tailgate party to start :)
