Does anyone have kids playing minor hockey here on PEI (male or female).

Kinda interested in what kind of fees you pay, and what you get for those fees. Ages and rink info will help out my comparisons.

Thanks

My son played his first season last year for free. We only had to pay for his insurance, which was about $30. They give you the first year free so that you can decide whether or not you want to keep your child there. Not sure yet what the costs will be for next year but he's going to hockey school this summer for five days (one hour per day) for about $170 dollars. He also needs hockey pants which I can get on sale for about $40. I've been checking out the Buy Sell and Trade but I'm unable to find any second hand stuff. It's definitely expensive! His other hobby is golf and those lessons are expensive too...right now he's content to hit the ball around the yard but soon enough he'll be wanting to go golfing on a real course.

I saw a story on the Journal-Pioneer a couple of weeks ago where minor hockey in Summerside met with city council over rates when the new rinks are built.
Apparently the fees to register for minor hockey are a little over $300. a year and projected to go to $500.+ after new rinks are finished.
Minor hockey are saying the cost will be too high with a lot of parents not able to afford to send their children.
Councillor Chappell said that with the added expense of running the new complex prices would have to rise. Up to now the story out of city hall was their would be no increase in operating expenses or user fees.
Wouldn't it be lovely to have a shiny new complex now being touted as the best in eastern Canada and have a lot of our kids not able to use it because it is too costly.

Champ that is already happening now. City council will declare tomorrow (Thursday) that they intend to move from the pool to the rinks meaning that Steele arena will come down Sept 1st.

With the City promoting the new senior team, Caps, Jr B, figure skating and rec leagues minor hockey is being shut out or close to it. Great way to promote the new rink complex. Summerside Minor hockey will probally be based out of Slemon Park, Bedeque & Borden.

Add this to the City removing the subsidy they provide to local sport assocaitions, leave Summerside minor hockey out about $35,000 yearly.

Way to go Summerside City Council...............you are the best!!!!!!

Sorry I didn't read this sooner "VIEW" but it seems to have been lost as both "FRANKIE" and I could not find it.
Looks like up here in S'side that if the inmates (residents) took over the asylum than it would be a step in the right direction.
I am continually impressed just how much crap the taxpayers in S'side are willing to take from city hall. Now that they are starting to pick on the sporting crowd which has been their power base for years we may finally start to see some positive changes at city hall next November.

In the sport circles the City has traditionally been very pro ball, then hockey, then what ever else so that they wouldn't have to visit the soccer growth.

Now soccer has become one of the faster growing sports in all areas except Summerside. If you want and can play competitive soccer you usually have to leave the association to join one of our neighbors (at the older levels).

Now that City hall has decide to build yet another unwanted monument, don't get me wrong we need a new rink, but not the jewel elephant they want to erect. Speaking of erect did you see the ad in the Journal Pioneer yesterday from Country Oven Restaurant advertising pills to increase sexual pleasure, quite an odd ad for a restaurant.

Next election may not come soon enough, perhaps if we all chip in and make a large purchase at Country Oven and hand them out at Council chambers they will be to busy to run again. Seems like no one wants to challenge them.
