I got a preview of what the new Islanders jerseys will look like.

I am underwhelmed.

Unfortunately the proposed changes to the uniform and logo that the new ownership wanted (I was very impressed with the original and unique proposed design) were too late in coming to the table (not enough time for Reebok to change order), so we will be stuck with what the previous ownership threw together in a fit of uninspiration :(

Can you share the preview?

I had heard the same also in that it is underwhelming and too late to change them. One suggestion they could do though is use the new ones for next season because of the time constraints but still submit their new design to Reebok for the following season and then use the current order as a 3rd jersey after the fall season. I know it would cost more and may not be the ideal situation merchandise-wise but in the end they get the logo/design they want and if it's a marketable one they may not lose out on the merchandising as much.

Always a possibility :)

I've heard that stores that carried Rocket merchandise are worried that the design is so "blah" that they are worried that the merchandise won't sell well.

Colours are black and gold (bright shiny gold, not Boston Bruins gold). The team logo is the Confederation Bridge and the word "Islanders" adorns the front of the jersey in a "stepping stone pattern" that is so poorly centred that the "ers" wraps around to the side so that face on, it looks like it just says "Island".

Sounds very underwhelming.....

Wish I knew also.

The description I gave above was verbally given to me by someone close to the scene.

I'm told that the first chance for the public to see them will be at the Q draft on June 8 (when players selected by the Islanders don a jersey for a photo op).

Based on the fact that all I was hearing was that it was terrible.....but it's actually not that bad.

The criticism I heard wasn't so much that it was terrible, just that it was not as marketable as it could have been ... the colour combinations are "dull" and don't work well with the uniform colours and that the Confederation Bridge is not a Charlottetown-centric symbol.

But those were the opinions of a professional marketing designer and maybe those things won't matter to the public when they are deciding whether or not to fork over $$$ for Islander paraphernalia :)

I think that's been a big problem of this team for years. They've just expected people to buy into a season ticket for the purpose of supporting their local team.

Thinking about their marketing or branding is the last thing that has been on the minds of the Savard ownership group. Now hopefully this new ownership group is a step in a different direction.

Wasn't just here that I heard that the logo was not good. The fact that my favorite color is black - it works for me. :D I don't always agree with the "professionals".....I'd buy a jersey in a heartbeat. I had the Rocket jersey that had PEI on the front because I hated that face on the rocket.

(There were some possible logos/jerseys on the rockettalk site, none of them appealed to me.....especially the green. Bleh.)

I think the logo is amazing.

Oh but wait, we're not talking about the MMHL team OR the PEI Mens Senior Baseball team, we're talking about the QMJHL team.

Before the logo became public someone who saw it beforehand told me not to expect too much but I like it. Looking forward to see how it looks on a jersey with the colors, for me the bridge on the logo may take a bit of getting used to but overall I like it.

I was expecting something much, much worse. The more I look at this logo, the more I like it. I think it would have been nicer if the circular logo part (that says Charlottetown) and the wave underneath were a different colour from the bridge. Seems like blue would have been the logical choice for the wave thing underneath the Islanders wording, but I guess it wouldn't have flowed from the Confederation bridge symbol as well. It will be interesting to see what the full uniform looks like. And will they have another symbol as well, for a shoulder patch or something?
