The criticism I heard wasn't so much that it was terrible, just that it was not as marketable as it could have been ... the colour combinations are "dull" and don't work well with the uniform colours and that the Confederation Bridge is not a Charlottetown-centric symbol.

I don't think it would have made much sense to use a Charlottetown centric logo when they are called the Islanders.

I actually like the logo, and the Islanders name works so long as it's Charlottetown Islanders and Not P E Island Islanders

I don't think it would have made much sense to use a Charlottetown centric logo when they are called the Islanders.

Having a PEI centric symbol when the team was going to be called the PEI Islanders made sense, but now that the team is called the Charlottetown Islanders, it might have been more appropriate - both from a branding perspective and local identity perspective - to use something that people more readily identify with Charlottetown than with PEI. At least that is what the new ownership group was thinking, and if there had been time to do more than just add the word "Charlottetown" to the logo chosen by Savard before he sold, we would have been seeing something different.

But like others have said, overall it isn't too bad. The gold tone is a bit more subdued than I envisioned and I can see the New Orleans Saints influence in the colour choices.

Sports teams typically base the logo of the franchise on the name of the team, not the location where they play. Creating a Charlottetown centric logo wouldn't make any sense unless it was something that made you think of Islanders that happened to be located in Charlottetown. Personally, I don't think a confed centre logo or something to do with confederation would be much fun!

Did they rename the Confederation Bridge when I was on vacation?

So a bridge is something that people automatically associate with an island instead of, say, a river? Interesting :P

Just giving you a hard time  ... like I said, had I not heard the opinions of people in the marketing design field and in the new ownership group, I probably wouldn't have batted an eye at the new design. Let's give it a chance and see how well it sells ... and as someone has mentioned, perhaps the design that would have been used had time permitted will become the basis of a "third uniform" somewhere down the road.
