Weed, harmless drug,or is it a stepping stone to harder ones? (153 Words)

This truly shows the ignorance of the population to say another drug is no more harmful that alcohol or cigarettes.

They are BOTH harmful; 45,000 Canadians die from smoking each year - and the number is still growing.

Depending on the model used, the COST of impaired driving crashes in Canada has been estimated to range from 2.2 billion dollars (real dollar model) to 12.8 billion dollars (willingness to pay model).

Given the limits on the 1,278 fatalities figure, and adding in water-related deaths, MADD Canada estimates there are somewhere between 1,350 and 1,600 impaired crash fatalities in Canada each year (3.7-4.4 deaths per day).

Yup so keep showing us that there is no more "harm" than the others.................well done ...

I don't think these folks would make this story up. It's also interesting that a number of cats in Charlottetown have gone missing lately and it's not likely due to foxes or coyotes.

the evil snowmobiles are killing cats?

If they will kill a fox I don't see why they wouldn't kill a cat.

Well that settles it then......

Yes and I think that we should keep the children inside also just in case...........
Who REALLY knows what evil lurks out there..............

Hard call here as again,we don't know the full extent of the story. My only run in with them was non existant as I had my $600.00 bike stolen last spring, report filed and no call back from them or anything.I'm not sure how busy they are however I expected a phone call at least from the constable whom was handling the case;none came so was not overly impressed with the feedback.
Considering that I live in the area, they are small town people and try to do their best. Seem to be doing a good job.
I can not see who ever hit the fox did it on purpose. But if whoever did ,thats a sad thing to do.I have read the article and seen the picture. You can not tell if it was done on purpose by it or by the couple who heard the snowmobiles. The couple said they heard the snomobiles and investagated the next morning. So the couple did not see what took place, but just assumed. In the picture there is alot of tracks in the feild, which would lead one to believe that the snowmobilers were circleing the feild or useing it just because it was an open space to criss cross or what ever. This could explain how the fox was struck, foxes hunt at night and this one was probally out looking for food .As anyone who has driven a snowmobile will tell you the side view at night is not the best at the best of times. This fox could have been spooked by the machines or just froze in the head lights. There is very little time to react when something hops out in front of you and snowmobiles take longer to stop than cars. But back to the pic,the fox looks like it was hit and killed, in my point of view.If it was run over more times than once the studs in the track would do more harm to the fox's body i would think. The pic shows a one clear track over the fox and more around the field, which lead me to this theory....

I am a sledder and I have a pass. I doubt we will ever know what really happened as most I see on the trails don't. If they had no pass, they would be in crap for that alone. Plus, no doubt they were drinking at that hour. People are going anti-sleds....maybe they should check out the shacks and clear some of them out. That is where the stuff starts.
I don't know what happened as it could have been an accident as it was nighttime and foxes are thick on there at night. Rabbits are more hit usually though. I have been blessed that I haven't hit any, but it can happen.
Now, that been said.....I have also seen some horrible things as well...to do with foxes. Instead of circling a fox, they got dogs to chase them and then once too tired, they caught the foxes on their sleds. It was awful. I reported it and that was years ago but nothing was done. What they did was parked their trucks on the side of the road with sleds on the back on trailers, then went to work.
I can't see this doing much more then get Peta involved <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="" title="Rolling Eyes" /> .

Did you get your pup cleaned up? I had that problem so many times. I used tomato soup and a bath but then someone told me to get a product at the vet clinic called "Get the odor out" but most call it "Skunk Away"(has a pic of a skunk on the bottle). You massage it into the animal. It is a spray and it works really well. Getting the smell out of the house was the worst thing I had to find. But I did. An older person told me to boil some old cologne for about 15 minutes and it does work too ...

[quote="Observer"]The wind developing on PEI is a dead issue. The death occurred when the Premier said he was in negotations to sell Maritime Electric to Quebec Hydro and all the gov owned wind farms will be sold as well. This is because they know there is no transmissions lines from N.B. to the Eastern Seaboard and no one is prepared to spend the $$$$ just to get Island wind power. Even if the power gets to N.B., then what?

Richard Brown and his team have known for ages that even with the cable under the bridge developers see this as a non-profit situation and no one is prepared to go that route. They think if they spin it well enough it will happen. What they don't or won't admit is that private companies cannot run on a deficit like they run their gov and no developer is going to lay out $350 million to lose money just so Richard can make a press announcement.

I have to agree.Putting up a few windmills make the newspaper and gets a few faces in the press. There is too much capital needed to take this to where it is needed and profitable. The new cable alone is estimated at 65 million, which in turn will be at least 75 to 80 million. This is why i also think that most of our wind energy will be on the table with the H.Q. deal....

Sitting on the side of the highway waiting to catch speeding drivers, a Police Officer sees a car puttering along at 22 KPH. Says he to himself: "This driver is just as dangerous as a speeder!" So he turns on his lights and pulls the driver over. Approaching the car, he notices that there are five old ladies - two in the front seat and three in the back - wide eyed and white as ghosts.

The driver, obviously confused, says to him "Officer, I don't understand, I was doing exactly the speed limit! What seems to be the problem?"

"Ma'am," the officer replies, "you weren't speeding, but you should know that driving slower than the speed limit can also be a danger to other drivers."

"Slower than the speed limit? No sir, I was doing the speed limit exactly...Twenty-two kilometers an hour!" the old woman says a bit proudly.

The Police officer, trying to contain a chuckle explains to her that 22 is the highway number, not the speed limit.

A bit embarrassed, the woman grins and thanks the officer for pointing out her error.

"But before I let you go, Ma'am, I have to ask..Is everyone in this car OK? These women seem awfully shaken, and they haven't made a peep this whole time," the officer asks.

"Oh, they'll be all right in a minute officer. We just got off Highway 189."

I had a gift certificate for GJ's and decided to use it today. I called ahead and talked to the guy (manager - forget his name) and asked him what kinds of salads he had. He said caesar and garden. I asked if they had chef? He said yes...I told him I'd like that but with NO tomatoes. He was rushed on the phone; I figured they must have been busy (it was 11:30).

At noon I went in to pick up the salad. I gave him the gift certificate and he rang it in and said, "no change since it's a donation...enjoy your salad". He then took off and sat down with a guy who was sitting at a table. Okayyyy.

I went back to my office and opened the salad -- it was FULL of tomatoes. And not the kind you can pick off. They were the chopped up, mushy kind and I was gagging picking them out. (HATE tomatoes).

The salad was okay...better than a lot of places, despite the tomatoes. It had a lot of ingredients, but I'd have made a better one at home.

Got rid of a gift certificate at least....

The death occurred when the Premier said he was in negotations to sell Maritime Electric to Quebec Hydro and all the gov owned wind farms will be sold as well. Richard Brown and his team have known for ages that even with the cable under the bridge developers see this as a non-profit situation and no one is prepared to go that route.
Again......how much more is there to this stories?

First off how do the police know how long you have been here.....do you realize how many cars and people are in and around Summerside from Alberta? Some that have been driving around here for months, probably people who just don't want to have the license switched more than anything.

Where were you driving with your ATV? To my knowledge driving an ATV on the road is illegal, more so I would think with a plow attached.

Wearing a helmet here is the law, the law doesn't exempt tourists, landed immigrants, or those returning home from out west.....again I can be out on my bike and just tell the officer that listen I just moved here from Alberta, you can't fine me.

Roadside check points are just that.....to find cars and drivers with infractions. If you are residing here then you need to follow these laws, not the laws where you last were.

Any officer nervous of dogs may just get a jolt when a dog approaches them, some more than others, over react? Maybe.....but do you know how many police officers have been bitten or near bitten by dogs?...

As stated, Startford town hall is ideal, they block off one section of the gym and you have use of the equipment they have, ie balls, play tunnels, bouncy jumpers for the kids, lots of other things. We had our 2 year olds party there last month. You also get use of the stage to set up for your food/cake. Cost was $25 for 2 hours (1 hour in 1/2 the gym and 1 hour on the stage for food/cake). Nice to go there and not have them mess up your own place!!...

I just want to establish that although your experience with moderate use of MJ may have been enjoyable and seemingly left no lasting ill effects, this is not and will not be the case for all. It's troubling to see the effects on some and know it was avoidable. To minimize that risk is I think misleading and irresponsible. And I don't believe legalization is the cureall as many state. Legalization of alcohol following prohibition never stopped shine makers, legal smokes never stopped bootleg cigs, and legal pot won't stop MJ traffickers. The THC content of official dope will be controlled, but in my mind more importantly the active ingredients will be known, as opposed to whatever your neighborhood dealer sells....

The Old Telephone Man (269 Words)

The Old Telephone Man

Ya think you have lived to be 62 and know who you are, then along comes someone and blows it all to hell!

An old telephone man sat down at the Starbucks and ordered a cup of coffee.

As he sat sipping his coffee, a young woman sat down next to him...

She turned to the telephone man and asked, 'Are you really a telephone man?'

He replied, 'Well, I've spent my whole life installing telephone poles, PBX phone systems, data networks, trouble shooting down lines and short circuits, laying cable, installing wireless towers, living through 3 national strikes, installed radio / wire integration for General Price in Germany, ran an SB 86 switchboard in the Army and a 555 PBX back home and I've taught 100's of people to sell phone systems, so I guess I'm a telephone man.

She said, 'I'm a lesbian. I spend my whole day thinking about naked women. As soon as I get up in the morning, I think about naked women. When I shower, I think about naked women When I watch TV, I think about naked women. It seems everything makes me think of naked women.'

The two sat sipping in silence.

A little while later, a young man sat down on the other side of the old telephone man and asked, 'Are you really a telephone man?'

He replied, 'I always thought I was, but I just found out I am a lesbian.'...

The Italian Bank Robber...

A hooded armed robber bursts into the Bank of Italy and
forces the tellers to load a sack full of cash.

On his way out the door with the loot, one brave Italian customer grabs the
hood and pulls it off revealing the robber's face.

The robber shoots the guy in the head without hesitation!
He then looks around the bank to see if anyone else has seen him.
One of the tellers is looking straight at him.. The robber walks over
and calmly shoots him in the head.

Everyone by now is very scared and looking down at the floor.

"Dida anyone elsa see a my face?" calls the robber.
There follows a tense silence. Then an elderly Italian gent, looking
I explained this to the officer and apoligized, said I had a helmet and would go put it on she gave me a $400 fine????? ouch maybe a warning or a lesser fine

sorry you are getting such a bad impression of islanders...(even if they are police) i think the fine was a little much for that, a warning would have been enough for a first time offence when you just moved here and didnt know. hopefully that will be the end of your bad experiences!...

Rooms to rent for Birthday Party... (258 Words)

We've rented the Stratford Town Hall gym, and a really nice room that they have upstairs for both a birthday and a hockey wrapup party. Both went very well. I can't remember what it cost, but it wasn't much. Another popular choice is bowling at the Murphy Centre (aka the old Basilica Rec Centre), with use of one of the upstairs rooms. The rooms aren't as nice as the Town Hall, but they are under reno, so they might have improved since I was there last. I've also been to a couple of birthday parties at schools. I am not sure what the policy is, but both parties involved the gym and another room (teachers lounge for one of them). There are lots of other halls around, including the Darrach Centre on MacRae Drive, the Murchinson Centre by St. Pius, some nice rooms at the APM Centre in Cornwall, the Jack Blanchard Centre aka Holy Redeemer Hall, the Community Room upstairs at Sobeys Stratford (and other grocery stores), and the large room upstairs at the West Royalty Centre. Also the centre in Hillsborough Park. There are the Rocket parties at the rink, and Cari pool parties, both of which include a room. There are a number of rooms upstairs at the Civic Centre, too, but not sure on whether they rent for birthdays. Most of these ideas, though, are probably for kids older than three. I would check out one of the community halls I listed, or take the suggestion that was made to call Charlottetown City Hall....

Remember when maritime electric offered spots on a green grid? The spots sold rather quick if I remember correctly.
I think we got too much NIMBY going on here for this to ever develop....

P.E.I. should be working toward finishing the highway between Charlottetown and the turn off to Bordon. Companies who move product have to consider wear and tear on their vehicles and I am sure the twisty roads here help add to maintenance costs.

Olympics/Torch Relay: Terminator Arnie takes on protesters

(AFP) – 1 hour ago

VANCOUVER — Olympic protesters could have their hands full if they attempt to disrupt the torch relay after organisers announced that Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger would be one of the runners carrying the flame.

The movie-star, who is now the California governor, was named as one the torch bearers who will help ferry the flame to the opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics here on Friday.

A collection of different protest groups, who have demonstrated against the huge cost of the Olympics, are believed to be planning to disrupt proceedings to further hammer home their point.

"We are not worried about disruptions," said John Furlong, the chief executive of organising committee VANOC.

"If people come to express their views, we hope it's respectful and it's done peacefully. We hope that people who have waited 10 years to see the ceremonies will be allowed to do so.

"We have a great security team and they will determine how it's managed in and outside the BC Place (the venue for the opening ceremony)."

Schwarzenegger was named as one of a number of celebrity torch relay runners.

He will hand the flame to Sebastian Coe, the head of the 2012 London Olympics organising committee, while Canadan singing star Michael Buble will be the final runner on Thursday.

The torch relay for the 2010 Games has covered 45,000km, the longest domestic relay in Olympic history.

Furlong added that 10,000 people on Monday watched the relay pass through the British Columbia town of Mission, the home town of Jack Poole, the man who brought the Games to Vancouver but who died of cancer last year.
...
