Captain & Ass't Captains named + Game Tonight!! (308 Words)

Uigg, PEI native Travis McIsaac was named team captain by the PEI Rocket earlier today. Jonathan Bonneau (20), Matthew Hobbs (19) and newcomer Philippe Paradis (19) were named Assistant Captains for the 2010-2011 season.

“It is a really great honour to be named Captain of the Rocket” said McIsaac. “Coming back to PEI for my 20-year old season is very exciting and I can’t wait to get the season started”, he added.

Head Coach Eric Lavigne added that “Travis was a natural selection for Captain. He leads by example, both on and off the ice. He is a great example for our young players and will be a great asset to the organization this season”.

The Rocket will hit the ice for an exhibition game against the Saint John Sea Dogs on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM at the Charlottetown Civic Centre. Tickets are $5 for season ticket holders and $7 for non-season ticket holders. All seating is general admission and tickets can be purchased in advance at the Rocket office or CCC box office. Tickets will also be available at the gate, but fans are urged to purchase tickets in advance to avoid any lineups at the door.

Fans are also reminded that the Rocket team will be officially announced on Friday at noon as part of the 2nd Annual Street Hockey Festival. Grafton Street between University Avenue and Prince Street will be the location for the announcement. The Sherwood Peewee AAA Falcons will also be hosting a BBQ as part of the event, so fans are welcome to drop by. All proceeds from the Street Hockey Festival and the BBQ will assist the SPRMHA Peewee AAA Falcons who will be traveling to the Quebec Peewee International Minor Hockey tournament this winter.
...

Question about home insurance - sewage backup rider (111 Words)

Hi -
Our home insurance is up for renewal and it has increased quite a bit. Mostly because of coverage for sewer backup. We are wondering if we should drop this additional coverage to save money. It now costs an additional $450 for the year.
I called a few other insurance companies and got quotes. We can get it for as little as $100 with another company.
But is it worth it? How likely is it that we'll standing knee deep in raw sewage over the next year? Does it happen much on the island (we're not originally from here)?
All opinions are welcome!
Thanks!...

HDMI or DVI from video card to monitor? (116 Words)

Hi all. I have an ATI 4350 video card that has analog, DVI, & HDMI outputs but my 19" LCD monitor has only analog and DVI inputs.

Since analog cables came with the system, I have been using these but I was putting in an order with Monoprice and thought that I should go digital.

My question is, should I go DVI to DVI or HDMI to DVI? Or does it really matter?

I was debating about HDMI with a DVI adapter so that I could reuse the HDMI cable but then I thought that the adapter connection may be prone to working loose more so than a cable with a dedicated end....

I have never written or uttered a negative word about PEI - (who could?) I am not a "celebrity" (have you heard of me?) and my family, led by my teenage daughter has worked hard to procure votes from family and friends - as have I.

They slandered me to get votes from you. It's that simple. So
I just wanted you all to be aware of what lengths some people will go to win (at any/all cost). My family (myself included) are disgusted by this pathetic behavior, and we just wanted to let you know all know about this.

stephen king appreciation thread (411 Words)

huge fan, i've read almost everything he's put on paper over the years, most of them more than once. rather than polute the forum everytime i read or re-read one of his works i thought i'd limit myself to this thread.

king is the definitive author of fiction for my generation. i have never read another author's works that have held me the way a king novel does. anyone who is a fan knows what i'm talking about. his creativity is beyond explanation and his writing has come so far over the years, but has remained as riveting as ever.

i just finished reading under the dome. this was a great read. it's long, over 1000 pages, which is typical of a king novel. i was skeptical when i got the book as 1000 pages is a long read for a book about a town that is mysteriously covered by an invisible dome. the timeframe for the story takes place over 5 days. fortunately, there is also the typical huge cast of characters that only king has the ability to give life and color to.

i was a little disappointed in the ending as it played out with certain characters, but not to the point where it affected my opinion of the book as a whole. the plot moves along at a great pace. reading this novel made me wish that cell had been played out longer like he was able to do with this one.

i'm just starting duma key now as i missed out on that when it came out.

for anyone who's skeptical of getting into a king novel based on his reputation for horror, you may enjoy a lot of his newer novels. they're more based on the human aspects with elements of horror and sci-fi. some well known king novels that people aren't aware were his works are:

stand by me - the movie was actually basded on a stephen king short novel called the body

the shawshank redemption - i think everyone know's this movie but many are unaware it was a king novel.

the apt pupil - ditto to shawshank

i would recommend lisey's story to anyone interested in getting into king. it's one of his more recent works that has a real human element involved in the development. it strays into the realm of sci fi but is not overly dominated by this aspect....

Help An Islander Go To Antarctica (239 Words)

Hi Guys,

My girlfriend recently entered a contest to win a free trip to Antarctica valued at $45,000. The top 5 online vote getters will be chosen by a panel to win the trip.

With less than 48 hours left in the competition she is starting to lose hope. Please take the time out your day to vote at the below link. It only takes two seconds and would mean a lot.

http://www.adventurewithjulie.com/blogs/view/313

It's a bit tricky to vote but here is how to do it:

-Click on the button underneath the picture of Katie that says "Vote for Me"
-You will be redirected to a page that says "You must be logged in to see this page", on the right hand side of this page is button that says "Vote", click that
-It will ask you to put in your name and e-mail to register
-Once you are registered it will send a confirmation e-mail to your e-mail address asking you to confirm your vote. Click the link in the e-mail to confirm

This *should* count the votes, but I've heard some people say that they had to log into their account and click "Vote for Me" on Katie's page again (Step 1 of the instructions) in order for the votes to count.

Thanks!

Hurricane Earl (131 Words)

This is a storm to keep watch of. Current computer models are showing hurricane Earl to be approaching Nova Scotian waters sometime Friday with maximum sustained winds 150kph+ Hopefully the storms gets pushed east like hurricane Danielle and we don't have another hurricane Juan experience. These models are updated 3 or 4 times a day are are continually changing, so hopefully they change for the better. Either way, I am currently building a house, so I will be spending this week buttoning up the outside just in case

Muslum laws -----I wish we had them !! (595 Words)

This was e-mailed to me the other day. Maybe we all should convert to Muslum. As far as immigration goes, their no nonsense laws appeal to me.
[Of course I'd like to know for sure that this is true]

New Immigration Laws: Read to the bottom or you will miss the message...

1 There will be no special bilingual programs in the schools.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

2. All ballots will be in this nation's language.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

3. All government business will be conducted in our language.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

4. Non-residents will NOT have the right to vote no matter how long they are here.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

5. Non-citizens will NEVER be able to hold political office
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

6 Foreigners will not be a burden to the taxpayers. No welfare, no food stamps, no health care, or other government assistance programs.Any burden will be deported.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

7. Foreigners can invest in this country, but it must be an amount at least equal to 40,000 times the daily minimum wage.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

8. If foreigners come here and buy land... Options will be restricted. Certain parcels including waterfront property are reserved for citizens naturally born into this country.

9.. Foreigners may have no protests; no demonstrations, no waving of a foreign flag, no political organizing, no bad-mouthing our prime minister or his policies. These will lead to deportation.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

10. If you do come to this country illegally, you will be actively hunted &, when caught, sent to jail until your deportation can be arranged.
The above laws are the current immigration laws of the Muslim countries!
how can we get these laws to be
British, Canadian, American, Australian etc. immigration laws??...

A man now living on P.E.I. was given four months house arrest this week for a hit-and-run that killed a 19-year-old in B.C.

Adam Lund, 35, was found guilty in Cranbrook court of leaving the scene of the accident after hitting and killing Travis Steeger with his vehicle on a highway that runs through Fernie, B.C.

According to other motorists, Steeger, who had been drinking, was playing chicken with the traffic, jumping in front of cars and jumping out of the way, before the accident, which happened in February 2009.

Lund had also been drinking. He admitted to having a beer and seven shots before the accident.

The windshield of Lund's vehicle was shattered, but Lund drove home and did not report the accident.

Lund's sentence is conditional on him committing no other crimes.

Drunk (285 Words)

A drunken man walks into a biker bar, sits down at the bar and orders a drink. Looking around, he sees three men sitting at a corner table. He gets up, staggers to the table, leans over,looks the biggest, meanest, biker in the face and says:

'I went by your grandma's house today and

I saw her in the hallway buck-naked.

Man, she is one fine looking woman!'

The biker looks at him and doesn't say a word.

His buddies are confused, because he is one bad biker and would

fight at the drop of a hat.

The drunk leans on the table again and says:

'I got it on with your grandma and she is good,

the best I ever had!'

The biker's buddies are starting to get really mad

but the biker still says nothing.

The drunk leans on the table one more time and says,

'I'll tell you something else, boy,

your grandma liked it!'

At this point the biker stands up,

takes the drunk by the shoulders

looks him square in the eyes and says....................

'Grandpa,.......... Go home!...

HI there, I would like to take the time to address an issue that has been swimming around in my head for the last couple of days. I would like to hear your opinion.

Even though I didn't attend the early versions of the FOL/Rock concerts, I did fall in love with the venue and attended 4 in a row.

Although it was only for three days and the concerts ended at 10 pm, residents felt there rights were being abused and complained every year to the city. The city put an end to them this summer. I assume it became a nuisance with the noise pollution and the huge crowds.

Which leads me to the point of this discussion...

I live on Kensington Rd. and I as well as hundreds more live across from the civic centre. We must all be noise lovers because for two weeks our ears are filled with loud annoying noise from everywhere.

The set up:
People shouting
Erecting fences
Hammering and smashing all night long
Tractors running , back up beepers all night!
Hauling dirt all day and night

During the shows..they leave the north end of the rink open so we get internal noise as well, they also pump audio outside..at way to high decibel levels...It was nuts! Non stop everyday!

I couldn't believe it ...I have kids...I imagine other people around here do...not to mention the poor seniors living around here.

Point is...It happens everywhere...But They don't shut the old home week down due to disruption of the peace do they?

Sad part is they just need to use some common f#@#ing sense and adjust a few things and things would be different..ie turn down the outside audio you foolish idiots! I mean it they could hear ya in Summerside!

ps..If you know anyone that lives in Killiam properties across from the CCC just ask them about this, they'll tell ya....

Abram-Village & Kraft Celebration Tour (112 Words)

I just watched online part of the TSN Sportscentre show broadcast from Abram-Village. Wow...what a great story! It was hard to hold back the tears. I've been to Abram-Village a few times and it's a great community. Losing a rink to fire in a small community would be devastating. They are very deserving of the $25,000.00 prize. To top things off they donated $5000.00 of their winnings to the town of Georgetown, who they beat out in the competition. Class act all the way!! Congratulations to both Abram-Village and Georgetown on showing what community spirit is all about!
